I've seen a lot of people nitpick the features of this in the reviews, and I feel like that in a lot of these reviews, the purpose of the 'game' (or application, if you will) is lost.

This is not a game. It will not have the same features of a game.

Fair criticisms of the game include the music and sound systems. Vanilla music needs to be expanded, there should be more than one noise for the alarm, options to add your own playlists, and other tiny quality of life additions.

What this game shouldn't have is a bunch of clickable features in a supposedly "distraction-free environment." As someone who has trouble focusing on studying, the distinct lack of menus, settings, progression systems, skins, currencies, and all other forms of gameification was a huge plus for me, and props to the developers for not caving in under a tidal wave of reviews asking for these counter-intuitive options. This game is a glorified timer, alarm system, and radio with some achievements, and that's all it needs to be. Don't download if you aren't serious about getting stuff done and studying, and bring your own motivation.

I recently went on a short but sweet horror game binge night which consisted of hours of spooky game after spooky game in my room with the lights off and my headphones just a little too loud. A lot of the games I played set a great atmosphere, but then threw it aside for a quick jump scare or a repeated monster-death-respawn animation. This game has none of that. There are no contrived "walk forward when you clearly shouldn't" situations, everything is done for a believable purpose and the voice acting is as dismal and dreary as the facility Edward works in. Without spoiling too much, here are some reasons you should set aside the 40 minutes it takes to play this game:

1. The atmosphere.
The atmosphere is terrifying. I was unnerved as soon as I opened the door to my office and looked out at the various metal gurneys in a space that was way too dark for my liking. You are delightfully, utterly, completely alone. The developers are smart about retaining a believable atmosphere, though, and don't throw away the time it spends to get you uneasy. Other games will show you the monster model early in (which TOTALLY kills the mood for me), but Dark Fracture keeps throwing red herrings and what might be at you, so you're always unsure of what's around the corner.

2. The flow
I am not a smart person. I miss obvious ques in video games all the time, walk past highlighted keys, and even had trouble finding the exit door in Portal on one particular level. Even I, though, was able to pick up on what I was supposed to do next and where I needed to go. Checking your journal will give you information that isn't stated in voice lines, which is a good thing to keep in mind.

Overall, great game, and even though I'm not a horror person I'm considering buying the full thing. Well done, devs.
