Early Access Review
I'm really thankful for having the opportunity to try this game for free and to help its development by sharing my honest opinion.

I already played/read it and I actually liked it a lot, it is indeed a really dark story, it gave me strong emotions and made me anxious just by imagining the horrors described as the protagonist remembers and tells the previous events in his town

1) Narrator's voice and dialect: I didn't hear any voice, was I supposed to hear him talking or just the text? English is not my first language so at first I found it hard to understand the dialect but I could get the hang of it soon, plus I think it's helpful when builgind the atmosphere, I am not familiar with the regions in USA that have that form of speech, but I can imagine that's how things were in the time and location of the events. So it's pretty realistic, even though I can't really compare it to something that I know of.
2) Pacing. I think the time it takes to tell the story is appropiate, and that being said, it does feel like it scalates quickly, in a good, proper manner. It starts as some guy visinting his hometown to say goodbye since ''it's the last day'' so you assume he's moving far away or something. But suddenly we are in a story about crude racism, a cult, slavery, torture, death and a religous apocalyse .
3) Storyline arc. It really took me by surprise and as I mentioned, it created some strong emotions on me as these kind of topics, about massive discrimination, always make me feel frustrated, furious, sad. However, it is really interesting and it does make you get involved with the story pretty quick. At least if you like to read and just follow along with the visual novel. It does create this horror atmosphere, even if we are not exactly facing supernatural topics or monsters out of this world, the main enemy is human race being evil, which can be scarier than anything else, specially if real history events are involved.
4) Atmosphere: it made really made me get into the scenario, the only thing I could ''complain'' about is that the pictures (which I think are a really good addition to this work) that form the graphics do feel weird when moving arround with the cursor, it made me dizzy in the beginning and it was hard for me to stay focused at some times as I was fighting with my dizziness. Also, when I looked at the sky in some moments, I could almost see how the two pictures were ''glued'' together lol. I even wondered if I misread the description of the game and maybe this was supposed to be played as VR. But apparently it's not. Also, I couldn't find any way to make the game go full screen, windowed or not, so there was always about 1 cm of space that showed my deskptop, and when my cursor reached that space, it would show up my task bar and mess up my game experience, it was annoying trying to avoid that from happening. In some parts I also struggled to read the text as the font and color/outlining mixed up with the background.

I think that's all the I could ''complain'' about, but I think those are things that can be easily fixed (I know nothing about videogames but I do trust you, team!)

I would like to see this game grow and I will be waiting for the next episodes to be realised to buy them

Thanks for reading! I hope this is helpful for both developers and future players.

Incredibly short, I did not read anything related to the game, I just installed it and played it based on the name and the image used, It drew my attention bc I was born in August 1999

I was trying to choose/do something besides watch but it was pretty interesting to just walk around anyways. It does give you a tense atmosphere and I was scared a jumpscare would appear at any moment due to the screen being too dark.

I like the lack of context so you can have a vague idea of the events, but still the little information is disturbing enough to be a horror experience.

It took me 19 days to finally be free

I liked the concept a lot

The song was unexpected but good

It has a few glitches/bugs regarding the animation but nothing to worry about, I mean, it was free and it did not interfere with the gameplay

Pretty good to kil an hour in a good way, I wish a more elaborated version of this game existed, I would gladly pay for it, specially if it gives more details as to the Owl's nature.

I like the suspense, it had me wondering what was gonna happen. And I hated Anna. But after trying all 4 different combinations of choices, I'm still disappointed with the endings. We never get to know what happened to Jack's parents, or his real name. Also, who the hell killed the dog? At first I chose to free Grace and kill Anna, but I thought it was suspicious that Grace basically made her way into Jack's life... Made me think if she had something to do with his past, the dog, his parents... Never got to know.

Also it's kind of a surprise to see the main character change his perspective according to the option you choose, he can either turn out as a blood thirty killer, a guilty person who regrets his past, or a guy trying to scape bc he feels hopeless I know the choices are supposed to change the consecuences, but I think this is the first time I see in a visual novel that the MC actually changes their personality with very few choices. The options usually only change circumstances.

Nice reading anyways. Really, if there's anything else added to this one, or even a second game where I can know about Jack's past, PLEASE DO and I'll BUY IT

This is the best visual novel I've read so far, and I have had several. I'd not call it a visual novel but maybe a text based game.

It has such good graphics: pretty nice art and animations, the characters actually move as they speak and change expressions according to what they say, the environment moves too. It's really easy to get into the story, which, by the way, is also really well made.

The english translation is just perfect and the plot is really interesting. I really like the universe where the story takes place.

Something I find super cool from this game is that you can not only read and say some stuff here and there, you can also decide what to examine and what doors to open, and once you choose an option with a character you can not change it, there are only two save slots and I'll admit that I am lazy so I wouldnt use them as checkpoints to revert bad actions

What I don't like is that if I accidentally skip a text, I can't go back to read it, it'd be good to add that option but maybe it'll ruin the atmosphere.

I give it 10/10 because everything I see makes me like it even more and I haven't even finished it

I love every Rusty Lake game I've played so far and, not gonna lie, I only bought this because of the great time I had playing Hotel and Roots, expecting this one to be good too, BUT it still surprised me, I find it EXTREMELY good

Also, it's great that it has achievs and cards.

I'd love to play all the other games that exist related to the story here on steam, I'm really hoping one day all of them are available to buy, because this is just so good and enjoyable that I need to pay for it to feel comfortable

Love the story, the music, the art, the puzzles, the characters

Great, pleasant, interesting, weird, amazing, funny, cute, sad, depressing, surprising, with tons of possibilities. The end is just not what I expected, I find it depressing that it's just one canon ending, while the others are fanmade . For some weird reason I love Masada sensei and I am disappointed for not finding more about him in the canon game. Also this is a pretty amazing universe, I recommend reading the manga too if you haven't. The charm of Yume Nikki is that you have the chance to make theories since the game itself doesnt explain much. If you like thinking instead of reading stories, this is for you.

-Since it's about dreams ANYTHING can be possible (about the things you can see, find and experience through the gameplay).
-Since it's horror there sure are lots of eyes and I LOVE EYES.

I give it 9/10 because my feelings are still confused after finishing this...

Well, here it goes: 10/10

Really cute and funny, I enjoyed every minute until now and doubt I'll get tired of it, the soundtrack is great and I love Papyrus. This game actually lets you choose what will happen with each character, making it more interesting.

I'd give it 10/10 fr

Bought this bc it has my name on it and seemed like my type of game, wasn't disappointed nor amazed.
I liked the idea and the art, also the music.

It's too short, it had some good scenarios that could have made more interesting the story, but sadly the player only sees the surface of them.

Also, after finishing and getting the only achievement that there is I assume that there are no different endings, which means the options don't change the story at all. BUT AFTER ALL, the description of Lydia says that it's ''an experience'' so I am fine with this.

I recommend it if you're gonna see it like a shortfilm where you can pretend you're part of it since it's not really something you can play, win or lose.

7/10
