This has to be one of the best games ever.

Story didn't seem all that interesting at first but as it went on I appreciated how well thought everything was, with creative world and various references.

Not much needed to be said about humor, it is just pure ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bliss and elevates the game to heavens (or should I say the 9th underworld).

For a game like this, characters are to key to convey the story (you could say they are the skeleton of the game!!!), and here each one brings their unique flavor with their own distinct personalities, further enhanced by topnotch voice acting. Despite, with a few exceptions, every single one of them being literal skeletons in different outfits, they all are highly memorable and fun to interact with.

Most of the puzzles solvable with a bit of thinking, and some are really thought provoking and cleverly designed, giving you those strong dopamine kicks once you solve them.

As you can probably tell, I fell in love with Grim Fandango but I also see the problems it has, and I believe there is one in particular worth mentioning. While I called "most of the puzzles" as solvable and even praised "some of the puzzles" thought provoking, there are also a remaining portion of puzzles that make up the game's singular major flaw, though a VERY major one for a p&c. This minority of the puzzles are totally illogical, require some non-causal reasoning, or are just outright stupid. Almost in every act, I found myself wasting time on tow or three of these kind of puzzles, ultimately giving up and looking for hints, or if there was none, solutions. Still, I must say, thanks to the intriguing story, interesting characters, and fantastic humor, I could easily forget the bitter taste these puzzles left behind.

So my suggestion is: DEFINITELY experience this masterpiece if you enjoy the humor and the characters, but when things start to look unsolvable, put your pride aside and use one of those hint sites (or a walkthrough, though if the puzzle is actually a good one and you have just missed some clue, the walkthrough will spoil the solution for you, whereas hints can at least help you realize the what you are missing).

We have an old-but-gold indie beauty here. Puzzles are not particularly hard but they do a good job of forcing you to explore your arsenal while giving you the sense of freedom with a variety of possible solutions. The game follows an absurd plotline that justifies its level designs, fully aware of its own ridiculousness, and conveys this humor through quirky dialogues between missions, which I enjoyed a lot.

I could complain that the original content does not last long (~3h), but on the positive side, it definitely works better than artificially extending the game by adding mechanics that don't integrate well, as the joy of jumping around like a frog to rewire and hack stuff as a noir detective that is armed with additional powers that enrich amount of the solutions keeps you hooked until the end. And while I am yet to check more of them out, the custom levels are there to satiate your hunger if you are looking for more.

Not a bad game by any means, but while the game started off very promising, after the first act, my initial interest began to fade due to the incoherent story line and unimaginative story telling choices. As the game progresses, its appreciable quality decays to a something just slightly above mediocre with main gimmicks that were once novel starting to feel repetitive and starts to feel like a burden rather than features. Ultimately, especially towards the final act, despite some small highs here and there that carry a glimmer of hope, it all feels bland.

If it weren't for my disappointment with the game's (in my opinion) wasted potential, I wouldn't be leaving a negative review for it. I guess my expectations were too high due to high review score it received.

While it only takes around four hours to complete the main story, I believe it is quite a long game length for such a game that tries something so different and it is astonishing how the dev managed to make the main gimmick of the game always feel fresh.

My negative takes would be that there could be a higher difficulty level (considering even a casual player like me that seldom plays any games anymore did not have any difficulties in hard mode) and the ending is kind of underwhelming. Nevertheless, a solid game that everyone should try once.

If the puzzles were truly outstanding and thought provoking or the story was intriguing, it wouldn't bother me that much and I wouldn't have asked for a refund, but for a game that takes less than 2 hours to beat, it's too expensive. Maybe I just set my expectations a little too high when I saw the high rating on the store page.
