It can be hard to discern what people find so endearing about KCD1+2; the games are janky, unpolished and can be exceedingly frustrating when it comes to figuring out how or why something you tried failed or succeeded. Despite all of that, the answer to what people find so captivating about these games is simple...

There is no game on the market released in the last decade, barring Red Dead Redemption 2, that so powerfully suggests its setting and surroundings.

The mud and dirt, the rivers and streams, the lonely forests and lazy fields, the open swamps and the cramped caves, the dim taverns and the grand cathedrals, as well as the virtuous and licentious personalities from all walks of life are so carefully designed and placed to feel so real that its almost effortless to fit into the day-to-day events of 15th century Bohemia. Which isn't to say that the game is slow or plodding; every quest is designed with multiple ways to go about solving them and all the quests are memorable in the same way all the quests in Oblivion were memorable.

If you want to know what KCD2 does better than KCD1; EVERYTHING. its just a flatly better game. If you liked the first one then this will be a knock-out that will make entire weekends disappear. I cannot recommend it enough to people who have grown bored of the rut open world games seem to have fallen into.

5/10. This game is, putting it generously; undercooked, under-delivered, and uninspired.

Almost all aspects of the story and writing (barring a few characters) is first draft levels of boring. The gameplay is the only thing saving the game but even it has its own pitfalls. Outposts are totally worthless, ship combat never evolves past what you get in the first few hours, space travel is you just floating in an empty space hoping something happens, and tons of the dungeons on the planets are copy and pasted with little to no variation. Honestly, i could go on and on with all the little ways this game fails to foster a sense of cohesion in its gameplay or world-building.

If you REALLY need to play this game, go get it on GamePass or wait for it to drop to $40, that's the only price i could see this game being at all worth its price

"When we say something, and we decide to change that thing, postpone it, or cancel it, it doesn't mean that statement was a lie. It means it's no longer true. There is an ocean of difference" -[Fatshark] Hedge, as he desperately tries to excuse this garbage

So here we are again, Another amazing video game the devs knew would sell, so they stripped it of features and filled it to the brim with randomization to make sure you play this game for as long as possible in the hope you buy from the premium cosmetics shops. Its no exaggeration when i say this game is deliberately made to waste your time and this isnt even the first time Fatshark has done this; they do not respect your time or your intelligence as a human. If you MUST play this game, do yourself a favor and wait a year or two to see how this game pans out. You'd be doing yourself an even bigger favor by just not buying it at all

The Outbound Ghost is the KOTOR 2 of Paper Mario Fangames; a well built and well thought out game with an interesting narrative and likable characters that slowly falls apart the closer you get to the end. Which sucks given how a lot of love and effort clearly went into this game. Let's start with the good.

The combat and narrative are the things that really stand out, while a fangame like Bug Fables is more than okay with not exploring the furthest depths of concepts it touches on, Outbound Ghost goes all in with its settings and characters, with some characters commenting on how other ghosts "ascending" is just death again for everyone they leave behind. Combat also doesn't settle for only having a new singular gimmick and instead has a few new systems present, like the new badge system and pokemon-esqe companion system, that really shake up the old Paper Mario format.

Sadly, a majority of Outbound Ghost's problems stem from its execution, especially in its story. The game introduces a lot of interesting plot threads, mysteries and personal conflicts between major characters, only then leaves ALL of them dangling unresolved by the end of the story. The game also perspective swaps every chapter, so every chapter you'll have to become familiar with anywhere between 1 to 5 new characters and their individual problems. The Chapter 4 perspective swap was probably the least amount of fun I had during this game and tanked a lot of my enthusiasm for it too. I spent 9 hours in this game; of that time, Chapter 4 was 3 hours of those hours told in a nonlinear fashion filled to the brim with backtracking and I hated every second of it.

Another major problem in the game is the lack of side quests or an in-game economy. I dont think an in-game economy is as essential to an RPG as side quests, but having neither means there is no real way for the player to take a break from the main story to do other things; a story that, while having some good character moments, never goes beyond walking around and curb-stomping every enemy you encounter because even on the default settings the game is extraordinarily easy. I'm still not sure if I've been unobservant and just missed all the side quests somehow, but trust me: I talked to damn near everyone i could and didn't find anything.

The most annoying thing in the game is the map system and level design. Every single map in this game could be shrunk down by 20% and nothing would be lost. the devs do a pretty good job at hiding this with foliage and furniture, but you can't hide the amount of walking you will do and there will be areas that are gigantic and completely barren. There are moments where this game has more in common with Firewatch than Paper Mario. Outbound Ghost also offers a fast travel system to help get around the various areas you go to, but lacks a detailed map of the areas themselves, so if you dont remember how you got around a certain area, which will probably happen because the levels are massive, then get ready to rip your teeth out when you have to backtrack through it during Chapter 4.

This game and its devs have some serious potential to make a great paper RPG with the lessons they could learn from this game, but what's here in this game swings wildly between great and frustrating: Like, seriously, ♥♥♥♥ Chapter 4

TLDR: Too short, not enough to do, but looks great and plays well. mildly infuriating more often than it should be, It's not bad, but I can't recommend it at $20

This is less of a review of the game itself and instead its a review of the port. The obvious advantages of running on the Special edition engine is that many more objects can be rendered without it impacting frame rate. Many of the denser areas of Enderal that tanked FPS on Vanilla Skyrim's engine run flawlessly in the Special Edition engine. In an effort to crash the game intentionally, i set my player speed to 3000 and started running around the world map as fast as i could for 20 minutes. While the game did have some stuttering trying to keep up with my character, it didnt crash at all. Fantastic work by the community making what i thought was a pipe dream into a reality!
