If WH40K and FTL had a child, this is it, and it's perfect.

The thing that always irritated me in FTL was the fuel management. The forced push through the map is bliss for me here.

The amount of equipment, weapons, and strategies seems enormous, and I can't wait to try more of them—having ship captains with different abilities is superb. There are so many ways you can eradicate Imperial crews; it's mesmerizing.

This game deserves more recognition among FTL and WH40K players 12/10

biggest issue is that you don't have custom mode to play game after you beat the main story line what makes it tops 20 hours. Worth buying if under £10

I've waited 5 years. Avoided initial hype, avoided release bugs, AVOIDED major spoilers somehow.... And 5 years later im at the finish line for the main story. And the game was worth a wait - every second i havent played it was getting me closer to today.

Game that I was waiting for for ages. Ancestors: Legacy were close but did not hyped me with their battle style and unit variety while this one... Maaaaan. This has such a great potential.

Of course there are some bugs (tons of them actually) as this is like super EA - flashing skies when seasons are changing (worst flashing I've actually experienced was when season changed during cut scene - IN THIS STATE DEFO NOT FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE SENSITIVE TO FLASHING LIGHT), path-finding not working as intended, snow trails need some work but love the idea, archer units behaving like they've eaten some viking magic shrooms, boats deploying needs fixing as my whole army stuck in weird area unable to return, some balance on resources as after couple of minutes I've hoarded more than whole Scandinavia could eat in a decades (two fisherman huts were more than enough to have me sorted), druid could actually be an unit to spawn rather than a hut, i have habit of grinding every mission what ended up in me having wrecking the great foe in the 1st mission before they even reached my village, i burned theirs to the ground and suddenly - you have to flee and take revenge the other day :D 10 armies burning their homestead down, 10 armies sitting and guarding my village? Did I swapped the roles with the villains? Also map needs some adjustment as in current state navigating and finding right direction, your units, turning the camera is just irritating.

But now some pros - BOAT BUILDING is great and I believe it will be even better, palisade and defences are also nicely sorted, tech tree surprised me with option to get more units and is quite impressing itself too, season based production is a great idea (but balancing is a muss), this dark yet colourful world with it's meadows and snowy mountains is creating really nice atmosphere, units variety and their special skills are great.

Also I told myself that I won't be buying any EA ever unless it's viking oriented. Will happily return to continue campaign saga and do some skirmishes after couple more updates.

Since BETA that I've played ages ago, many things changed for better - everyone were under impression that its gonna stay in a state of "Pond of Nothing To Do". I'm glad that I gave this game some time to develop. There is so much content now that I feel like in a Treasure Island when I'm playing and following quests, Jack Sparrow hits when I'm doing PvP and on top of that I have my personal beef with Megalodons in a real cpt. Ahab style. Random encounters, player interactions, pirate like community split between Pirate Kings and Quest Grinders is really making SoT experience one of the bests that I've ever had. I can easily say that by Dec 2020 I'll get to the point of 500h +. Most important thing thou is to have some good buddies to play with - or just forge some good buddies in a storm of bullets and cannonballs by getting some randoms (that backfired a bit in my case because out of 7 random players, 4 were good, 2 were trolls that sunk my ship and one... Well one was my Obi-Wan who introduced me to the ways of the pirate force) 2137% recommended. Don't hesitate if you like open world where you are the master of your own adventure. Hoist that Black Flag, pour yourself some rum if you're 18+ (because **** 21 limit in US - land of the free my a**) and sail away into the sunset!
