man i was REALLY looking forward to this and it's so upsetting the state this game has been released in. i feel like im being gaslit by the positive reviews that dont mention the performance issues and seem to have all been based on a dev curated build of the game and not the version we've been given today. the early game is so much more punishing than it needs to be due to jank controls, lack of a basic ranged weapon, and other inconveniences. i got through 2 cycle resets (mostly by dying) in an hour and a half of playing the game and was only able to unlock one ability, that gave me the OPPORTUNITY to have a medkit, because actually getting a medkit requires a currency i apparently did not have. i loved drifter and while solar ash had its issues i at leasts enjoyed how it felt to play. i wanted to love this but i cant recommend it at all in its current state. this was delayed multiple times since its announcement nearly 3 years ago, why didnt they delay it further? i get it's early access but christ. launches like this are making me pretty sick of the model

If you think this game is transphobic you clearly missed the point. Having played and enjoyed He ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the Girl Out of Me (as a SWer myself this one hit particularly close to home), Taylor's most recent work, I decided to go back and check this out. I started hormones back in April of 2016 after about a 2 and a half year period of dealing with therapists like the one depicted in this and was asked similar questions to Arle in order to convince them I was trans.

My first "gender" therapist asked me uncomfortable questions that I wasn't ready to confront and when I couldn't answer them in a satisfactory way, wrote me off and I ended up just seeing her as a regular therapist until I eventually stopped going in. I saw her again a year later when I did have answers to those questions but after a single visit she told me she couldn't be impartial because of our previous sessions so I had to find someone else. All of this set me back a long time.

Arle is well written and reminds me of myself when I was the same age, unlike her I didn't have anyone else when I was rejected and that's part of why it took me as long as it did to start hormones. The therapist in Saving You From Yourself is supposed to be the villain, the scenarios presented are scarily accurate to my own experiences and this is simply reality for many young trans people seeking hormones. If you didn't understand that then I'm not sure what to tell you.

THE ANIMALS HAVE MADE ME CRY

I've waited over 10 years for this game and it honestly blew me away with how it managed to take everything I loved about the original and one up it. The gameplay feels smoother, the humor still hits, and the art style translated well into higher definition. The way Psychonauts 2 addresses and handles mental health will probably be the one thing I continue to look back on when I think about this game. Thank you, Double Fine.
