It's a very good RPG and in many ways it has surpassed KCD1 but in others it hasn't and then there's points where I'm stuck in-between. Overall I recommend the game because it's just a good action RPG.

I think most of the positives are related the the production, this game is clearly a triple A game now where KCD1 was a double A game with triple A aspirations, it's cutscenes are well directed, the random encounters and side quests and activities are all very good there's no collect 200 feathers or anything like that. There is probably less overall content in this game compared to other RPGs but from all the quests I've played there aren't any bad ones.
KCD1 had tons of problems with big battles which led to there not really being any massive battles in it, that was fixed in KCD2, there are a few set pieces which include armies clashing within the hundreds of men and it runs pretty smoothly as opposed to KCD1 where more than 10 often led to insane lag.

Graphically the character models are much better, KCD1 often had weird faces and strange facial emotions but there is none of that I have seen in KCD2. There are certain things better in both games nature wise, there's a colourful filter in KCD2 that isn't as realistic as KCD1 for example.
The flowers are still jpegs which I find funny.

Combat has been streamlined and is far smoother, though there's still balance problems with it. (The Devs have talked about improving it in future patches.)
The biggest changes are removed 2 directions, removed slow motion and made master cuts exclusive to swords. I can't say which game I prefer because they feel different and now have their own problems.
KCD1 had an armour scailing problem where eventually blunt weapons just completely outclassed all other weapon types because everyone would be in full plate armour by endgame and due to every weapon having master cuts and there being no real counter you'd never even attempt combos.
KCD2 fixed the master cut spam by making it avoidable but also exclusive now to swords. This has now put swords position of blunt weapons in KCD1, being able to master cut any enemy from the second you unlock it means you don't have to worry about armour ever. If you have a sword you will eventually win from just master cutting, it is a bit harder in multiple enemy encounters but in duels it's always optimal to just spam master cuts.
I only really find ranged to be objectively better than KCD1 due to the bow and crossbow actually being properly aimed on the animation.

Slight spoilers ahead: (I talk more about themes then plot points.)

Story wise I enjoyed it but now it feels far more akin to older assassin's creed games in terms of historical accuracy. Henry also feels a bit too competent and less of a fish out of water, it is to expected from a sequel somewhat but a lot of his awkwardness from kcd1 is gone. The stakes and set pieces are far grander than the first game, which just leads to issues with timings and historical characters, a lot of the historical characters introduced in 2 and some in 1 just don't feel like people from the era.
Whether this is a problem to you or not I think it's purely subjective, KCD1 had similar issues but the grander scale of 2 has just made it pop out more.
I do think if you enjoyed KCD1s story you'll like KCD2 but most of my gripes with the story are mostly related to Henry becoming less and less relatable.
The biggest theme of KCD2 is revenge and war, Henry and Hans at the start have a very naive view on war but get dragged into a minor one which really shows the horrors of war and how wars are actually fought. Henry especially gets challenged into being put in difficult positions which have him seeing his past trauma from the burning of Skalitz reflected in the actions of both sides of the warring factions.
Revenge is handled relatively fine in the story, a lot of revenge storylines have a black and white revenge bad message while KCD2 is more grey. Overall the idea I took from it was "Revenge if pursued can lead you into evil." You can get revenge in the story but it doesn't say you're bad for getting revenge it only says you're bad if your pursuit of it starts hurting the innocent.

I like the music in both games, there are quite a few great tracks in kcd2. Kuttenberg, Tournament battle, Nevakov March and Welcome to Troskovice are my favourite tracks in the game. There are a few KCD1 tracks I miss, the themes when exploring the wilds in KCD1 are better imo.

TLDR: yeah it's good, get it especially if you liked the first one. Most issues are subjective.

By recommend I specifically mean recommended for a first playthrough and if you are into the souls-like genre, if you're new to the genre i think this could be a bad starting place as it isn't very clear to new players so you'll need guides. I started a new character for a second playthrough and it became incredibly mundane really quickly. The games open world is fantastic but if you explore it a lot the first time through it becomes boring and slower compared to other Fromsoft games.

Weapon variety is amazing, weapon skills are a great addition finally adding variety for melee focused builds however the game is heavily biased to magic, its needed patches to make pure strength builds fun which was sadly my choice for this game which led to some really tedious fights. Horse combat sucks only due to the dodge not having i-frames would be amazing if there was some put in later patches. Main bosses are really good for the most part, the open world bosses suck due to them being repeated everywhere, group bosses besides Rennala are pretty awful too.

Online PVP is cancer, hackers, larpers and the same match-up all the time as well as fromsoft multiplayer jank in general. This PC port is magnificently awful compared to consoles as well, launched with insane stuttering and has taken multiple patches to run good in basic areas despite the graphics being on the same level of DS3.

Basically everything else I love though, the lore, music, characters and world are great. It is a really great open-world as well I just don't think its on the tier of something like Breath of the Wild which you can replay multiple times and still be engaged with exploring. Combat for the most part is really smooth and responsive, I do think its gotten to the point where its gone from more action then RPG considering how quick everything is and how often you have to dodge which may annoy the more RPG leaning fans.

Overall thoughts, an incredible game, masterpiece to Fromsoft fans but may be too much for a souls-like newbie and if you can get a console port its probably better.
