I hadn't really heard much about the game before, I picked it up on a lark while it was on a steep sale, and I'm loving it. Really really fun isometric tactical stealth game.

Maybe the worst writing of the classic six FF games, but almost definitely the best gameplay, so YMMV.

Maybe it's because my expectations were low, but I've enjoyed and have been impressed by FF2. The overwhelming community sentiment is that "FF2 sucks", but that just isn't really the truth. Every rerelease and subsequent remaster of this game has refined it and sanded off rough edges. It's not exactly a "classic" JRPG, but the progression and leveling mechanics of this game are breath of fresh air and I've enjoyed it a lot.

The free form character customization and levelling have been nice- I have a melee fighter that uses staves (the weakest weapon in the game) as his primary DPS source because I found out you could spike a midgame staff from an early game mob, and I've used that to leapfrog a lot of the intended power progression of the early game for that character. No other final fantasy game would really let you do this! Lots of opportunity for customization and player and skill expression available in this game!

It's fine, I guess. Not fine enough to be worth 40 dollars for an incomplete product. This is not a game that respects your time in the micro or macro sense.
There's no reason that healing outside of combat should require watching an animation and a particle effect every time you want to heal. This becomes a problem when you have to heal multiple thousands of health across 3 party members, and each potion only heals 200 HP at a time.
In the original, you just pressed a button in a menu in your inventory, the game made a twinkle noise, and your health went up by 200. You could spam the button as fast as you want.
Square stretched a simple process that used to take seconds into taking multiple minutes, and this is emblematic of the entire experience.

Edit: Beat the game, wow they just keep stretching that ♥♥♥♥ out huh. ♥♥♥♥ the sewers, all my homies hate the sewers.

My kids are all pissed and causing problems and I'm drowning them in the drinking water to make the problem go away but one of them was bleeding from an assault on my fortress and because they were bleeding when they drowned they have poisoned my water supply and now my dwarves are sick and puking and upset and now I gotta drown more dwarves
incredible

This is a cute, faithful N64 3d platformer. It's maybe a little too faithful in it's worst parts, with a purposefully awkward camera you will need to wrangle. More frustrating than that is when the game takes away the ability to adjust the camera from you, and forces you into a camera angle that reduces depth perception for things like platforming or attacking.
For 6.99, the game is an easy recommendation. It's a largely wonderful and short platformer/collectathon, and I love the portions of the game in Wolloh's Hollow. The game is at it's weakest when you are linearly platforming in an abstract void without much character, and at it's strongest while exploring and puzzling in a unique and silly sandbox. I would love a sequel that leans more into the collectathon roots and ditches the void platforming that sandwich the Wollow's Hollow portion of the game. Wollow's Hollow is worth the price of admission alone!

A horror game with a good sense of humor, really feels like 2 guys that have known each other forever and have their own internal language are hanging out. Really love it.

It's your second time releasing this game for PC and you still can't be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to let us bind a separate kick button. The port also runs like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥- if you're playing on a steam deck or a weak PC, your performance will decay over time, and repeatedly necessitate rebooting the game. Some game actions, like parrying, or being struck by a weapon, will tank your framerate to less than 10 FPS. You cannot play online on a steamdeck, because if your framerate dips low enough, you will be kicked to the login screen, as your FPS isn't good enough to play online. The game logic is also tied to framerate.

Dark Souls 1 itself is maybe even perfect game mechanically until you get the lord vessel, and then you progress through a series of more and more irritating and underbaked zones. Do yourself a favor, get the Lord Vessel and then play a different Souls game. This is not a good port and the devs don't deserve your money for it.

I've put like more than 400 hours into this game, most of it long long after I've accomplished everything and experienced every bit of content the game has to offer. The game is simply that good, that it compels you play.
My only complaint is that I can't get my hands on the board game, I was even at Gencon this last year, and it sold out in the first 20 minutes every day. Really looking forward to Slay the Spire 2 (and also maybe some day buying the board game when I can get it)
