I’ve been playing Football Manager since 2010, and I’ve played every single version since then.

This game has been with me through my teenage years and into adulthood, shaping both my love for football and video games. Through good times and bad, Football Manager has always been there a place to immerse myself and forget everything else for a while.

When SI announced the new engine, I was genuinely excited. To be honest, the last few iterations felt like the same game with a new skin, but I still enjoyed each one immensely. The cancellation of FM 2025 was disappointing. I even had my vacation planned around the release. But after hearing the reasons behind the delay, I thought maybe it was for the best. I believed this year we’d finally get the game the community deserves. A game worth the wait. As Miles said, “a ducking good game.”

I started playing the beta with an open mind, ready to adapt to the new engine and expecting a learning curve. But the truth is, the game is bad.

The UI is poorly designed, clearly built with consoles in mind, and requires far more clicks than before. Countless small and medium features have been removed, and while individually minor, together they make the game feel soulless, not the Football Manager we know and love.

And then there are the bugs. It’s honestly embarrassing to see a release in such an unfinished state. Basic quality-of-life features are gone, some screens are incomplete, and frequent soft and hard locks force restarts far too often. The game is, frankly, a mess.

Even though the match and tactics engines show real innovation, everything around them feels broken. After waiting two years, I couldn’t be more disappointed.

I love Football Manager, but this year’s iteration proves that SI needs major improvements: in game design, product planning, marketing, communication etc…. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend buying this game
