Just a reminder to those living in the past - take off your rose-coloured glasses when looking back at your time with the original Bloodlines. It was a hot janky mess that was hamstrung by rushed release on a brand new engine (the 2nd game to use the Source engine outside of Valve) by a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ publisher (Activision). It killed the developer who made it. The only reason it is so beloved is because the community stepped up and fixed that janky mess into something playable as a cult classic long after the bean counters stopped caring. That and the Ocean Front Hotel.

Is this the perfect sequel we all wanted when HSL first announced it? No. This is a different game with an admittedly poorly chosen title.
Is there jank? Sure the combat is twitchy and impercise.
Is there Roleplaying? A bit, so far the RP elements are light, though I have heard they are barely existent.
Do I really care that much? No. The story The Chinese Room wanted to tell does not lend itself to a hard RPG where you start from nothing and take over Seattle.

I'm enjoying my time with it so far and I think if you give it a FAIR assessment without those glasses on, then you might enjoy it too.

[INSERT STARSHIP TROOPERS JOKE]

This game is great, and a ton of fun while playing with friends - when you can get onto the servers.

I was a little wary about this game when initial reviews came out, plus the garbage DLC / Edition / Pre-order Now BS, so I waited.

When the free weekend rolled around I had to try it. And it was really good, it definitely got its hooks into me. However when it came time to Buy I decided on just the base edition. We'll see how I feel about the DLC later...maybe if it comes on sale too I'll grab it but I really don't like that content was gated off and premium currency BS.

This game is just so great to play and chill.

Have a particularly bad day at work? Why not make some tiny Germanic villages?

Don't like points or scoring or "winning" a game? Make some villages that look cool!

This is my first ever Soulsborne game.
It is really good, and quite accessible for a newbie like me.
Don't get me wrong: it is hard and unforgiving in it's difficulty, but somehow still fair? Like most of the times I've died have been because of stupid mistakes that I've made, or I've gotten greedy with my attacks trying to get one more hit in.

If you've avoided the Souls series because of the "Git Gud" crowd, I suggest checking this one out.
