Story doesn't suit Doom games.
Probably the most fun of modern trilogy.

One of the best VR experiences you can get.
The atmosphere, gameplay, music, intensity - it's amazing.

I just don't know, man.

I was overhyped by the internet community that this is the true successor to DL1, which, for me, was the best. But this feels more dumbed down than the DL2.

The atmosphere - barely there.
Combat - after Dead Island 2 - boring.
Skill tree - a joke.
Zombie grabs - had to mod it for it to go away.
Story - possibly the worst straight to DVD crap I've played.
Side quests - for now they are ok.
Store - not necessary to exist.
Character motivations, both Crane and Antagonist - just what.

Locations feel like a theme ride. Never been to one, mind you, but the castles, medieval streets, big castle gates and fences - they all feel like a theme park. Fake, bland. I love the small apartments with curtains hanging in front of windows, there is an amazing mood there, but when you've seen the same apartment or attic layout for the 10th time, it feels boring.
Same goes for the dead zones, which all, in the city, feel same.

Combat is meh. After Dead Island 2 I feel that it's so boring, so barebones. Barely any gore/impact. Just smash and bash same two moves over and over again. Not a single addition to the combat since the first game. It just isn't fun.
Stamina is so little that it doesn't sit right with roided up Crane.

In skill tree it's just the same stuff from DL1, just locked now. Except for the Beast skill tree.
But the regular skill tree is just basic stuff like dropkick etc. And the skill tree is sooo small.

The ways that zombies grab you every 3 seconds is a joke. I had to mod it out because it wasn't playable.

The story I thought will hook me up. Crane was experimented on for years and he finally breaks free.
Antagonist is a cookie cutter basic evil guy who just wants to experiment on stuff and make dangerous zombies more dangerous. Why? What for? Why people are working for him? Do they have no choice? How he is taking care for them? Why he is in charge of it?
It would be so damn refreshing to see a story behind that. Crane breaks free, gets to the barracks, or apartments or wherever these hundreds of scientists are living in, seeing that they are just desperate people who try to survive the apocalypse. But no, just a generic underground lab until you are free.
The first dialogue he had with the female lead whose name I forgot because she was such a basic character - it was laughably bad. I thought that they are just joking around with that. All those angry Crane responses and generic explanations the female lead gave him, just wow.
And now Crane wants to stop the Baron, the antagonist, and that's just it. Just kill him. Because he was experimented on. Crane is sane, a good guy, even after so many years of being a hostage being and experimented on.

Side quests felt ok, because they were with some story behind them. That I love in games that came after Witcher 3, because there almost every quest was with some backstory or development. Here it feels similar, just on a much smaller scale. There are fetch quests, but they are not that painful.

I don't understand why you need the store for. Just craft everything and find everything. In store you sell stuff and you don't need to buy anything. At least I felt that I get everything from looting and crafting.
No big thing that you are saving money for, no permanent upgrades, nothing.

Evil guy is evil, good guy is good. Good guy wants to stop the evil guy from doing random, pointless evil things. No emotions, no motivations, just something a child watching 90s movies would come up with.
It feels like an unfinished DLC. Which I heard that it was?
No new mechanics, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story, average gameplay, no sense of progression. Just a chore to play.

After writing this review I understood that I hate this game.
Might try to finish it though.

If you have issues with black screen and soft crash on launch, disable Smooth Motion in Nvidia global settings in Nvidia App or Control Panel.

If Steam shows update that is not applying and it shows, that game has not launched yet, enter DLC settings by right clicking BF6 in your library and uncheck Multiplayer Marker and HD MP Marker, Apple update and then check them again.

Anyway, the game is good.
Took me back to younger years with snacks and playing till the morning.

Hellblade 2 feels like an extended proof of concept.
It's incredibly beautiful.
The combat is brutal, amazing, and each fight is literally unique. I saw maybe couple similar finishes throughout the game.
The sound design is great, although I wanted to hear more ambiance.
Dolby Atmos integration is lacking.
Story is there, and it's ok.

The game feels very minimalistic. Some collectibles might be couple of meters away from each other. Most of the time it's just walking. The voices keep you company, and some narration.
The hidden folk puzzles were nice at the beginning but later felt like a chore. None of the puzzles were too difficult. I don't know, it just feels that there is very little content there.

What is there, it's great. Some very emotional scenes with mature themes etc.
If it's on a deep sale, grab it. Otherwise, as a fan of the first one, I would say it's not worth it.

My hours don't reflect the game time as some hours I was afk.

For now I wouldn't recommend this game.
I got it really cheap as a part of a bundle. It's just the same stuff over and over again. Story is just barely there.
I would call it lazy. For some reason it seems harder, possibly because zombies just spawn whenever they want to.
Some maps are so lazy that you can see objects that you could usually pick up and drawers you usually open, but in some new maps you cant pick them up, they just lay there as a part of a level design.

UV is ok, fighting gloves are nice, some new upgrades and unlocks, more living space, etc.
If you want just more of the same then I guess it's ok.

For now it's a no from me. I understand it's an old remaster for an even older game.
But it feels clunky, runs really bad compared to other VR games, with much better graphics. The story is kinda there in the background, but it feels like this is made for kids.

One of the most special games in the history of gaming.

Edit: after half a year after beating it and nominating it on Steam Awards I feel nostalgic about my time spent in the world of Expedition 33.

Mainstream horror-wise seems like the scariest game I've ever played, beating RE:VII, Alan Wake 2 and some VR titles
