My Experiences And Opinions About This Game's Current Situation:

I know a lot of players are criticising the developers over the latest update (which I’ll get into in a moment), but I want to show my support. This game’s 54% positive rating just doesn’t do it justice. True, the new story might not be as strong as before, and I personally preferred the old game introduction. But to me, Infinity Nikki remains a masterpiece.

First off, this is a massive game, and bugs are almost inevitable, especially in something still so fresh. As a small developer myself, I can tell you that tracking down and fixing every issue takes far more time, consistency, and patience than most people realise.

To begin, let me explain what Infinity Nikki is for anyone unfamiliar: it’s an open-world dress-up gacha game made specifically for women. You can wander the map, chat with friends (or strangers), and collect outfits and stars with the cute outfits you’ve designed all yourself. Unlike most gacha titles, like Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves, Honkai Starrail etc... combat here is ultra-basic, instead, the emphasis is on cozy exploration in a gorgeous, seamless world.

Rather than pulling for characters, you pull for dresses, and none of them grant combat advantages, so there’s no P2W pressure. Every piece exists purely for style, which is what really sets Infinity Nikki apart. Add in expressive emotes, a robust photo mode, charming art and fashion design, a delightful soundtrack, and fun mini-games… and you’ve got an adorably immersive experience. Even the community of Infinity Nikki is absolutely lovely, I can tell I have never encountered such well built and awesome community like this in my life.

And if you are unaware of the situation, you may ask... What did they do wrong? Now, let’s look at the aspects that didn’t sit well with players.

  • When it comes to the microtransactions, it is where things get worse. The pricing structure feels unfair for many players.

  • Back when the Steam wishlist campaign hit 100,000 entries, they’d promised ten free pulls, but once the milestone was reached, that reward was quietly cut down to just two pulls. Thankfully, after a day of community backlash, and riots the team ultimately restored the full ten pulls.

  • The developers increased the fragments needed to unlock a five-star character, from 8–10 pieces up to 11, by adding more clothing types. This shift makes the system a bit tougher for F2P players (even though these skins are purely cosmetic). But at least, they made the skins more advanced and better now, with the beautiful special skin based cutscenes and extra clothing content.

  • Apparently, on the release day, PC players were greeted with an unskippable glitchy and laggy tutorial sequence (even if they have months of playtime) and what's worse, mobile and console players weren't able to log into the game for a few days, due to an error, meaning anyone who’d purchased the daily-login pass simply lost out on the rewards they’d paid for.

  • Due to a bug, with the new phoenix outfit, you could float for longer and further if you spammed the "W" key. Players thought it was a feature, and many players spent many of their pulls on it for this exact purpose. Then after, this bug was fixed. Ultimately resulting so, the players who spent their pulls got annoyed by it. I would say this is both the developers' and the players' fault.

  • They teased a new long-waited and highly demanded co:op feature, but apparently it is not working properly? Some say, they can't do co:op, and some say, they can't get out of co:op so they can't continue with their quests.

  • They teased a much–anticipated accessory dyeing feature, and excitement was high, only to be met with frustration on release. First, you must own two of each accessory you want to customise, which instantly raises the barrier for F2P players. Then, rather than unlocking a full colour palette at once, you unlock colours one shade at a time, and each unlock is randomised from a large pool of colour possibilities, moreover the unlocked colours don't transfer, they are item-based.

So, the most desirable colours are black and pink, but if you want to dye one of your accessories to pink, you will need to meet lots of conditions, which ruins the fun. Having need the highest evolution of the item just so we can colour them makes no sense, it would be fine if they made an exception for the five star ones, they should, and they also need to make it so the colours are not piece-based. This is supposed to be a cozy dress up game, we shouldn't be suffering trying to get the material just because we want to create diverse and adorable outfits.

  • To unlock a full five-star outfit, you needed 11 fragments, remember? Which makes, about 220 pulls for a guaranteed set. Now, with the ā€œfinal evolutionā€ feature, you must collect those same 11 fragments all over again, doubling the required pulls to 440. Moreover, the developers introduced a limited-time bathtub hair accessory for $50, slapping a 79% ā€œdiscountā€ tag on it purely as a marketing tactic, so it is $10 now (average Chinese gacha), but the hair decoration does not have anything special. I heard, you can't even get your character to equip it? There is a limited time bubble wand for $1 though, I personally purchased that one, and I loved it. Although you can only use it while emoting, it is still adorable. Perfect use for playing with friends, chilling, emoting, exploring and walking around while chatting or speaking.

  • Many boycott and protest posts were deleted by the executives, and several users were even banned for speaking out. In response, the community jokingly rebranded the "boycotting" movement as ā€œgirlcotting,ā€ and despite account terminations, they pressed on with their protest.

  • The entire story of the game was retconned. We are not sure why this happened, but I believe they have a meaningful reasoning for this. Maybe they thought the old story was too dull? So anyway, originally, you were isekai’d into a magical world by a mysterious dress, met an ancient sorceress trapped for a millennium, and embarked on a quest to reclaim her lost dress fragments. Now, the plot throws you into an intergalactic saga: you’ve supposedly destroyed your home world and must travel back in time to undo the catastrophe. While the new visuals, cutscene animations, and production values are impressive, many longtime players still miss the clarity and charm of the original intro. The new one is messy, and players are thrown inside without context. Moreover, it gives the feel that the game disconnected from the magical world the game originally introduced us to.
My suggestion:

Given that now you have two entire separate stories, why not let players choose their preferred ā€œoriginā€ at the very start? Find a way to connect both stories, and then present two black icons, one in the shape of a dress, the other a star, each marked with a question mark. When a player selects one, it lights up, zooms into focus, and launches the corresponding cutscene depending on which the player clicked. That way, newcomers can randomly pick whichever story they want to witness depending on their shape or friend recommendations.
How that sounds? The players can always choose to begin the game from a new account if they want to see what happens when they press the other one, or simply watch it on YouTube, just so they will be content that they did not miss out on anything.

Anyway, don't be a downer guys, where else can we find such an amazing open-world chill gacha dressup game with such unique characters and cutscenes that is made exclusively for girls? I trust that the executives will actually listen to the community feedback, and I believe that they are striving on making their game better.

I will keep playing the game. Feel free to leave a comment, I am always up to listening to user feedbacks.
