Legitimately one of the best games I've played with friends in years with an endless amount of shenanigans.

If you're a Lovecraft fan and have played other games like this one, definitely give this game a go, I highly enjoyed it. It feels a little unfinished in some areas, yes, but the atmosphere and story are enough to make it worth sinking into (no pun intended.)

I came into FFXIV a couple years ago, sceptical like many often have, judging it before giving it a fair chance. Boy do I look back and laugh at myself now. I have played or tried pretty much every mmo to ever exist, countless RPGs and this absolute bastard of a game comes along and makes me have a full blown existential crisis for 2 weeks after finishing Shadowbringers (especially bulldozing right into 5.4.) I have never been so destroyed by a story in a game in my entire life, it is absolutely PHENOMENAL writing and I could not recommend this game more. There is so much to do and so many unique things that are specific to FFXIV outside of the story as well that half the time I don't even realise how much time has passed.
Oh yeah, and the music absolutely S L A P S.

As the other reviews have stated, the game is decent but the servers? Absolute joke. You won't be getting anywhere unless you get a huge friend group together or know people already on the servers. Found the players to be extremely toxic, even more so then The Isle which is saying something. Not sure if it's because it brings in a younger audience or what. Got invited to a group after being killed several times by said group only to be kicked out and killed not soon after. Like I said, absolute joke and not new player friendly in the slightest. Not sure if I've just had bad luck with the very limited amount of populated servers you can choose from but the game would be extremely enjoyable if it weren't for most of the players and how the servers seem to be run. Do NOT recommend currently.
EDIT: 269 hours in after giving it a hard go again, still stand by this review. Met only a very small handful of nice, down to earth people. One of the most toxic playerbases I've ever encountered, up there with Rust.

Having legit the most fun I've had in awhile with a game playing this. My first day playing I ran straight into 3 adult T-Rex's in the middle of the night, screamed and tried to get away, ended up being adopted by them. Many other shenanigans in the following days, needless to say have met some awesome people who know how to have a good time! The game itself is great so far and very promising, can't wait to see what they add in down the road.

Simply an outstanding, well put together game that I cannot praise enough. Couldn't turn it off most of the time as it leaves you hooked. Exploring an alien ocean is a dream come true for me.

Improved a lot since I last played on beta, can't wait to see where they take it from here onwards. Really looking forward to exploring all of Tamriel at some point, every TES nerds wet dream.
There's so much interactivity in this game though seriously, it completely sucks you in. I can safely say I wont be playing another MMO for a long, long time.
Feels like home.
