Silent Hill f is the greatest game to be released in the last several years. The game manages to be everything I wanted it to be since it first got announced in 2022 and more. I have completed the game four (4) times and achieved three (3) endings. I messed up the puzzles on one of the play-throughs that is why the numbers don't make sense but I still had tons of fun!

I am a newer Silent Hill fan, having just played the first four games for the first time last year. The franchise quickly became my favorite horror franchise, and gaming franchise in general. Silent Hill f is my first new Silent Hill game to experience. I do not consider remakes or remasters new games, they are merely modernisations of games that technically no longer exist.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Silent Hill f is the most Silent Hill a modern, different game can be. The story is incredibly strong and touches on subjects very on par with the series. The atmosphere is incredibly realistic and very very easy to get lost looking at. The forest and the town and the school and the dark shrine are all just amazing to look at. I don't see many people talk about it, but I love the save shrines having ways to upgrade your character and how many Omamoris (perks, pretty much) you can hold. The monster designs are probably the most crazy looking Japanese enemies I've seen in any game that takes place in Japan. Full of Silent Hill features too, lots of flesh, cuts, stitches, big holes in their faces, y'know, the best you want from Silent Hill! The story of the game touches on mental health, arranged marriage, sexism, and I think the biggest theme, family. This, is why I believe the name of the game really means Silent Hill 𝒇𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒚.

While the game holds many awesome feats, it's not without it's flaws. One very divisive feature is the melee-only combat in the game and the fact the game is slightly more combat-focused. The protagonist is given no guns or anything of the such, this alone is not a problem, but the thing that makes it really annoying is other issues with the game that I will get into. But in my personal opinion, I found the combat by itself alright. It could have some tweaks done to it to make it perfect and less sluggish (and enemies less spongy. harder difficulties make sense but c'mon).

The real problems with the game come in performance, jankiness, and game design. One real problem with the game is how janky it is. The character movement is not like it is in SH2R which is fine given the developers are not the same as SH2R and this is their first real game; It becomes a problem when it actually makes the combat harder. Later into the game, there are A TON of enemies for quite literally no reason. Especially one enemy that gets spawned like ten (10) times in the last little stretch of the game which is annoying because of how spongy it is and also the enemy spawns other enemies, so cool ig. It's not so much of a problem the better you get with the combat, but the first play-through can be annoying with that. Performance also can be an issue. I only had one crash throughout all four play-throughs I did. But there is one part at the end of the game that does this really weird screen resizing thing but it can be avoided entirely by capping FPS to 60fps. At least for me.

While I do recommend this game (very very heavily recommend it), there is one MAJOR caveat to if you should purchase this game. The writer (Ryukishi07) is known for making their games stories changes multiple times the more you play. This game is exactly the same. Silent Hill f is a game that technically is not considered "complete" until you finish three endings. I have no problem playing a game three times to get there, but I know lots of people play games for story, and lots of people don't. This caveat might not even be a major deal-breaker for you for you to buy it. I figured it is better to mention it just in case.

Silent Hill f is a fantastic game and a great installment in the series. I really hope that more Silent Hill games in the future continue exploring and trying new ideas even if they don't land with everyone. A lot of people want the series to go back to the town of Silent Hill, like the first three games. I really do not think that they should've made any Silent Hill games in the town after Silent Hill 3. Genuinely, there should've been tons of Silent Hill fs before we actually got Silent Hill f. In other words, all the games in between 4-Downpour are redundant. The only other one that makes sense is Origins for obvious reasons. Silent Hill f was needed for the series.

For this wonderful game, I thank Konami and Neobards Entertainment! And here's to more Silent Hill games from them! Now that we got a 1960's Japan game, how about a modern Japan game, eh? (wink wink)

This last part is for the people who spam Silent Hill f stuff because "woke":

I normally do not open comments for reviews because I do not really read them and no one can change my mind. But I am sure at least some people will feel the need to say something funny so I welcome the circus.

Also,
SH2>SHf>SH3>SH>SH4

When I finished the rest of the series, if I can, I will maybe update that part but I know some of you will disagree lol.
