I generally don't play games like this, because I tend to be absolutely terrible at them. I picked this up originally because of the glowing reviews, then promptly ignored it for some time. Eventually I decided "okay, let's see how this goes", and next thing you know, I'm 7 hours into the game.

Yes, it's a micromanaging dream, and yes, that means I'm terrible at it. Somehow I don't even care, I'm enjoying Banished anyway. It can take a while to find a setup that works the way you want it to, but it was worth the wait. And definitely worth the money, I just wish I'd realised this slightly sooner.

Managed to pick this up for free back when it was first released on Steam - well worth it to have something I can just sit and play for 10 minutes without getting too deeply involved in a game. Don't know that I'd pay full price for it, but if it's on sale it's nice for those casual gaming stints.

This game is cute, it's the only way I have to describe it. It makes me feel strangely fuzzy inside. At its heart is a children's story, with a few grammar issues here and there (none of the characters are voiced either, so you need to read all text to follow conversations), but those are only mild gripes.

It's old, there's no doubting that, but the cuteness extends to its simplicity too. And it works, from combat simple enough for a child to understand (I suspect there might be reasons to that), to a really nice levelling system that doesn't seem to be possible to break.

If you're an RPG fan looking for something a little "lighter" than normal, pick this up. Definitely well worth it.

I had this game for a good while, but I had major gameplay issues from the start and I kept getting annoyed and leaving it alone for months on end. I had a friend point out a couple of fixes to me, and suddenly, hello - I lost an entire night because I was enjoying the game just that much.

Those fixes, btw - your default interact key , should be left as default. In the hacking minigame at least one of the threads insists on Spacebar just to be able to work. You can always assign a different key as the backup key and it'll work fine for everything else, but for hacking to work, Spacebar needs to be left as default.

Also, don't try overriding the graphical settings from within the AMD or nVidia software - it can break the dialogue boxes, leaving them blank and you unable to actually choose your dialogue. Considering how Alpha Protocol works, this isn't a good thing.

Those two bugs were gamebreaking for me originally. Once I knew how to get around them, the game played like a dream. Clunky in a few places [combat/movement wise] and I despise the checkpoint system, but I would still happily play it over and over again. There is major replay value depending on where you'd like to travel to first, your dialogue options, everything else. Definitely worth it on sale, though not necessarily otherwise.
