They did a lot of work to polish the original game and that makes it one of a kind by my reckoning. Sadly, the second game completely changes the combat system and I'm running into a wall over it. I went from being a space wizard who could control the battlefield to hiding behind a wall waiting for my single ability that can damage shields to come off cooldown and hope it even hits, since unlike your companions, it doesn't hit automatically and can even strike the cover right in front of you. Also, sometimes it appears that you could just stand up and fire your ability off but the game has arbitrarily decided you're one pixel off and you can watch as your Shepard just sits there, ignoring your input. I highly recommend the first game and wish I could give a mixed review for the second.

It's had a rocky history but so long as they don't do something insane like Total Warhammer 4, I think we're out of the dark times.

It's a really great game with a super interesting universe and I really, sincerely hope they make more games for it.
The gameplay loop is divine. I admit I used a lot more melee and abilities than I ever fired my guns.

I can't believe this is free. It's a little janky, but wow. I look forward to when it's finished!

Holy crap the controls are nightmarishly bad, you have to press a button to get temporary free camera. How do you mess up that badly?

Very good, very hard. It feels like the only one who can win is the blacksmith, though, which really hurts because the unlockable character is the perfect expression of what I love in fantasy.

I dislike the gem system, and in general it could be a lot better with a lot of polish. Wish there was a neutral review option.

EDIT: Sadly it seems the main reason I bought the game originally won't be added, and so I must amend my review.
I no longer wish for a neutral review option, but will leave the original review unedited.
