I'm sure this would be a fun game but the game doesn't recognize the directional pad on my controller, just the analog sticks. I prefer to move with the d-pad and assign any camera controls to the analog sticks. I know most people prefer to use the analog sticks to move, but I just don't and to not even have it as an option is a huge oversight in my view.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it matches Super Mario 3D World, but Sackboy A Big Adventure IS a fun game and you owe it to yourself to play it; unless you hate fun and want to punish yourself.

Generic, has a certain amount of charm. Enemies are not really memorable, but the retro-future vibe is fun.
Serviceable. Not as solid as L4D or L4D2. Good for a sale or if you're looking to change it up a little bit.

Has a lot of promise, doesn't work with my controller's analog sticks.

The game has several glitch areas where you get stuck in loops like characters falling off edges in a loop, or powers not registering. I'm sure the game would be more fun if these bugs didn't happen. You'd t hink they'd patch in like a counter, after 4 deaths, you started near the start.

CONS:
The game struggles to perform on my system, even with low settings. There's a lot of stuttering. There was texture flickering on all detail settings (from High to Low). The slow mo when the last orc dies throws me off. Someone in the discord chat said they basically made the game like OMD Unchained in War Mode. Having never played OMDU, I had nothing to compare it to. I can't say I'm enthused about it. The aiming reticle is easy to lose (it's small) and doesn't seem to line up where your attacks actually go. I would have appreciated a single player series of maps, just as a sort of "campaign". One of the game reviews I saw online said with the limited barricades, each map feels like a puzzle, and once you've figured that puzzle out the maps lose their sparkle. I played 3 maps, and I'm inclined to agree with that assessment. I may have overlooked it, but there doesn't seem to be a preview of what enemies are showing up on a map.

PROS:
There is a metric butt ton of options, upgrades, powers, bonuses, etc. There are hidden items all over. I feel there is a lot of potential here, but it just feels "off" to me. If you liked Orcs Must Die Unchained in War Mode, you will probably like this game. If you are uncertain and you're expecting something more like Orcs Must Die! 3, I'd wait for a sale or hold off until the game's future becomes clearer. There are tutorial videos that cover the basics of how barricades work, and how traps, and trap combos work--this is a welcomed addition. The maps that I played seemed really expansive, felt very similar to the style of maps in OMD Unchained.

IF ROBOT IS LISTENING:
It's too different from the other games in the series for me--I do not like being limited with barricades. Perhaps if they offered other game modes with less restrictions or made it so that you got 16 free barricades and earned 1 or 2 extra per wave. There doesn't seem to be way to send Robot feedback. Their discord is discussion only, so any feedback gets lost in the noise. This lack of feedback is really confusing. If there are other modes that get added later, and allows for diverse play styles, I will get the game again. For now, it was sadly a refund for me.

I was hoping to pick this up as an alternative to Darkest Dungeon. The game intrigues me but I'm not good at it. The graphics are fine--but the game stutters and it failed to hold my interest. It could definitely use a narrator like DD and better and more audio feedback. Looking back on it, the narrator goes a LONG way to keeping interest, at least for me and not having one definitely detracts. The game itself appears serviceable, but unfortunately it's not what I was hoping it would be.
