Beyond: Two Souls is an underwhelming interactive movie game. The story is dragged out, padded with tons of fillers. The gameplay consists mostly of tedious busywork. You are forced to provide user input for mundane actions that should have just been smooth cutscenes. The overall experience is ruined by the game's insistence on interaction where none is needed. In the end, it fails as a game because there's no real gameplay, and it fails as a movie because it won't stop interrupting itself.

Ready or Not was once a flawed but promising tactical shooter. It built a reputation on tense, methodical gameplay and a vision for authentic SWAT operations. But what we have today is a game weighed down by years of unresolved issues and a major update that feels more like a regression. The all-time Steam review score reflects what Ready or Not was, not what it is now.

Downgraded for Console, Punishing PC Players
To prepare for a console release, the PC version suffered a severe graphics downgrade:
  • Shadows and reflections removed or reduced in quality
  • Compressed, low-fidelity textures
  • Lighting inconsistencies causing washed-out or overly bright areas
  • NPC models with broken textures, clipping, and shiny plastic skin
The graphics were never cutting-edge, but now they're noticeably worse.

AI and Gameplay Still Broken
Despite years of feedback, core gameplay issues persist or have even regressed:
  • Suspects still detect players through tiny gaps and have laser accurate aim while strafing
  • Civilians often run away or refuse to comply
  • AI teammates block doors, fail to report evidence, and offer little tactical support
  • Arresting incapacitated NPCs still produces glitchy ragdolls

The most recent update introduced mandatory Epic Games Services installation without prior disclosure. The game also contains AI-generated content that is also not properly disclosed. Both are violating Steam's policies. Combined with vague developer communication and minimal QA, it's clear that there is a lack of transparency and direction.

If you're reading the old positive reviews, know this: they describe a different game than the one you'll play today. Ready or Not now feels more like a compromised console port than the hardcore PC tactical shooter it was meant to be.
