Let me start by saying this game is not a great game. It is a good game. Games are to have fun and everybody's take on "fun" is different. Did I have fun? Yes. Is it the most fun I had? No. Is it anyway memorable? Not really. Is it shocking me in anyway? Not really... It is really unfortunate that this is a mediocre game and a really good example of a Bethesda game! And it is a textbook Bethesda game. So coming in with that knowledge I can just enjoy some railroady quest-lines, travel for the sake of traveling and out of curiosity, enjoy an OK main quest, and make pretend that we are playing an RPG.

What I like:
- Ship building is really fun. It can be better and more diverse. But as it is, it is fun and really the best thing for me in the game.
- Feeling of playing a sci-fi game is nice. (More on this later on) It is a bit lackluster sometimes but flying around in star systems, moons, looking at the sky to see nice views is nice.
- I love that there is base building however it is not as good as I expected it to be. Still I like these kind of sandbox elements.
- I enjoy Bethesda style jokes. Some easter eggs, funny side quest kinda encounters are nice.

In general we are in space (Yay!) and are flying around with our custom spaceship, expecting a funny encounter around the corner. Nice!

What I don't like:
- UI is horrible. You have to pause a lot. You have to search for things in a boring uninspired inventory. You have to juggle between a lot of screens that transitions slowly. And all this breaks immersion. The actual playing the game stops too much for too little. Classic Bethesda:)
- Combat is so boring. AI is outdated. Guns don't feel that diverse and impactful. I understand Melee is not viable when there are laser guns but still why does it feel I'm swinging a 150lbs Dining Table instead of a 2-foot-long blade? OK, there are laser guns, shotguns, and machine guns... hello, isn't it the future?
- Ship combat is somewhat fun. But that is also not that diverse and requires zero skill almost. Also related, but a minor gripe, ship-building is just gambling with how less information is given on some parts...
- Quests are kind of "railroady" and options don't really matter beyond 2 lines of companion feedback. (Bethesda?)
- Everywhere and everyone feels the same. Some key NPC's and Major Cities have character but the rest is a plain, uninteresting mass of basically nothing... Bethesda:(
Connected to this Sci-fi feel is also so unimaginative and uninspired and feels there is much more to be desired. Everyone looks, acts, talks, dresses the same. Every lifeform looks the same. Every mineral, planet, moon looks and feels the same. Where is the imagination?
- The graphics, animations, general design philosophy, game-feel, writing... They are all outdated. We have seen amazing writing, amazing graphics, amazing gameplay, amazing design and artwork over the past decade... Sadly this game has NONE of these as great, let alone groundbreaking:(

Summary:

As of writing this review I haven't progressed all that far (Early 20's) However for writing the things I wrote I don't have to. And I don't hate the game. I'm having fun. It is not the most fun I have ever had, yes, but it has its moments. Sadly those moments are few and they will soon run out, I know.
I recommend everyone to play it, If they have the time and the money... if they like Bethesda games... if they want to do all those things that other space games offer in an RPG setting. Go ahead and play it.
It is sadly just an okay game in the history of games.

I wish discovery and sense of exploration was greater and more fun.
I wish combat and choices and writing were more varied and more elaborate.
I wish we could fly that cool ship we build freely and in a more meaningful way.
I wish we could marvel on the details and beauty of the graphics and landscape (1/3 of the game time) and animations and facial details (another 1/3 of the time what we are looking at)
But it is a Bethesda game, who are famous with their "shallow-but-vast!" kind of games.
Play it knowing every other famous space game does something much better than Starfield and Starfield does not have anything great or groundbreaking in it. However it has all the things sprinkled and in an RPG setting. A solid 7/10. Thank you for reading!

This game is breathtaking. It is deep. It is emotional. Funny, witty, exciting and tense! It is all these things and more, while being a political cop drama! The artwork is amazing. The writing is exceptional. It is so simple yet complex in a strange and sometimes funny way. The internal, and external, adventures of our main guy Harry and, dare I say one of the best sidekicks ever, Mr. Kitsuragi is enchanting. If you are looking for action around the corner, it will disappoint you. But this game treats its aspects as a pleasure delayer does. When something happens, a breakthrough, a successful check, answered questions and finally, action, it happens after such a good and tense build up that you are filled with joy and excitement.

Now for the last part of the game. It is, to some, unfitting to the rest of the game, out of place, underwhelming. I believe it is because we expect games to be like superhero movies. One big, flashy, and sadly easily foreseen ending with explosions. This game does not have that. I tend to agree the ending feels worse than what the game could offer. But it is because the game is so amazing it feels that way, I am also gonna say the ending is very good. It is just... normal.

And in the end this is a normal story of a washed up, drunk cop solving a normal murder, told in an extraordinarily detailed and amazingly well written way. I wish all of you a sidekick as cool as Kim Kitsuragi and hope you all try this masterpiece out and enjoy!
