There are many things I disliked about the game, but more that I did enjoy which tipped the scales in the game's favour. I did not play any of the Suikoden games so I'll be giving my thoughts purely from this game's perspective.

The good:
- Interesting scripted boss battles
- Fun boss gimmicks
- Theatre
- City Building
- Cooking battles
- Character Interactions
- Send expedition teams for resources instead of having to grind for them
- Spells, abilities and hero combos look really awesome

The meh
- Story starts strong, drifts off to mediocre towards boring and then picks back up again near the end
- SP hero combos are most of the time not worth the party turn economy
- Resistances and Weaknesses barely play any effect, you can just use fire on everything, fire on fire elementals, fire on lava monsters, fire on ice monsters, fire on bosses, just fire the world
- If you want a challenge, do not under any circumstance venture to the optional boss rush in the bottom of your castle once you unlock it. One fight will catapult your units into levels they should not be at and will trivialize any combats henceforth even the final boss fight. Having said that, the optional boss rush is harder than the final boss fight by a long shot, so that's where you'll go for a challenge once you beat the story.
- Fishing

The bad
- What in the name of all that's holy is the purpose of the auto save feature in this game? Watched a long cutscene after a long dungeon? Well no auto save for you. Have you been doing back to back boss fights and have needed to save and close down the game due to RL obligations? Better think again. Auto save triggers on its own whim and is utterly pointless. Have played it for hours without it triggering once.
- Beigoma battles
- Hero combos as a damage source are laughable for the most part, you're better off using your individual party members to do their own thing and it'll almost always be a better choice than a hero combo. Look great, are crap.
- Party composition does have optimal units to use. Momo has single handedly taken down more chunks out of bosses than the team combined. Momo Inferno go brrrr.

Despite all of this, I will still recommend the game because it did give me 70 hours of fun. Theatre is hands down one of my favourite activities, always cracks me up. I had to leave the game running for 15 hours because I had other things to take care of and no way of saving after a plethora of back to back combats in story.

TLDR: I knew what I was getting into when I purchased this because I played the open beta, if you enjoyed that and wanted to actually go through the story and enjoy it for what it is, I recommend it. If you have never played a monster hunter game and want to try it out, I recommend this game as your starting point. If you can't justify the price tag for a game that you can finish in about 40 hours (rushing through everything) then this game is not for you. Want a great coop experience with friends or just emulate the coop experience with NPC's that will join you on hunts? This is the game for you.

Wilds is by far the shortest Monster Hunter experience I've ever had with the franchise. When you look at the last 2 titles at launch, not including their Master Rank story expansions, it can be cleared in half the time. I've put in over 1000 hours into both world and rise combined along with their DLC's and can safely say they had a lot more meat on them at launch, but each suffered from it's own issues. Same thing is happening with Wilds. I knew what I was getting into when I made the purchase.

I'm not going to defend the game's abysmal performance if you plan on not using frame generation to play it. I have a 3060 Ti card running 572.70 drivers, 64gb of Ram, SSD storage, i9-10900KF CPU and when the sandstorm hits or the massive lightning storms in the windward plains, hoooo boy let me tell ya, that 15-20fps slideshow is fantastic. So what I've done is I hit up that AMD FSR option, cranked up the models and textures while hitting that balanced frame gen and I'm sailing in the same area under the same circumstances at a cool 60-80fps. If you have a better rig than mine, you will obviously be able to crank that up even higher and get even more out of your visual fidelity. Point is, I wanted to play the game in a way that allowed me to fight the monsters and not the frames and it does that.

The story is probably one of my personal favourite aspects across all the games in the franchise. The writing felt good, the feelings were conveyed properly and there was no over the top cheerfulness or depression. On one hand I wish the story was longer, but on the other hand it didn't overstay its welcome. The credits will roll once you're done with low rank, however the plot won't be over with until you're finished with high rank assignments which is end of chapter 6. At the time of this writing I got to the end of chapter 6 while playing it casually with friends with some light grinding for armors I thought looked really cool and wanted to unlock for layered purposes (glam in the game).

When the story ends you unlock the end-game which maintains the traditional monster hunter gameplay loop: hunt for rng components to create your dream build by hunting tempered monsters of every difficulty. This is where everyone that loves monster hunter will spend their time.

Looking at previous versions, they will be coming up with events that will implement crossovers with other games (maybe other capcom games or who knows a surprise collab), just don't expect anything at launch. It'll take time for them to build up momentum with the events.

Am I going to continue playing this game? Yeah. I've had a great time with it and want to see what they plan on doing with it. All biomes are connected into one seamless map, it's not just a hub system that you go to and spend all your time on loading screens by changing areas. They made it easy to do what people generally want to do, hunt the monsters. Could it have been done better? Of course. Won't stop me from enjoying this title for all the improvements it has brought to the franchise. The weapons got new life breathed into them and their combos not only look but also feel fantastic to execute.

If you're on the fence and not convinced this is for you, just wait for a sale. Fanatical, Humble and Green Man Gaming sometimes give good discounts just nothing too crazy since this is still brand new. Overall I am satisfied with the purchase and don't have regrets.

I was having a good time with the game up until campaign mission 3 where I encountered a visual bug that blacked out my whole map. Attempted to save and quit in order to try and fix it, when I came back to the game, the load feature did not work properly. Saving does not save your talismans, town purchases, or anything related to your hand or where you last were when you saved. Killing the boss after loading the game also did not complete the mission, which left me in limbo as I was roaming the land unable to complete the campaign only option was to abandon or restart, both of which remove any progress I had made through the mission.

As enjoyable of an experience as it had started, the inability to properly save and load left me frustrated. I don't think I'll be continuing the game for a while. Hopefully they will patch the save system to work properly.

Until then I cannot, in good faith, recommend this. Which is a big shame, because I loved the mechanics of the game.

Early Access Review
After 122 hours, I have not managed to reach end game because I get distracted by every character build I want to test out and keep going back to the start. Kudos to Eleventh Hour Games for creating an ARPG that gave me enough enjoyment to play through the game's story from the start all the way until the "end" on numerous playthroughs without the game feeling stale in the least.

The story is good, the environments look fantastic, replayability is definitively there, build diversity is where the game truly shines.

I'm looking forward to the 1.0 release as this game has done a fantastic job of scratching my ARPG itch whenever it comes around.

Other people have said it best before me, but I shall re-iterate: If you're looking for something to give you more build diversity than D4 without overwhelming you like PoE, this is your absolute must get.

Easily one of the most enjoyable RPG's I've played since divinity original sin 2. The story was a blast from the beginning of the game until the very end. Took me a good 160 hours to finish, that's because I tried to do almost everything I possibly could. Every side quest, every path, left no stone unturned. Even as such, still missed quite a few spots that I'll just need to revisit in a future playthrough. Cannot recommend it enough if you're a fan of good story telling.

Been playing this for about a month now with two buddies of mine. If you're looking for a fun co-op experience, highly recommend this game. Story has its good points and low points, but overall very enjoyable. Not sure it will stand the test of time once we get through the expeditions, but I can honestly say after 36h I believe I got my money's worth.

Not sure how the game would be in a solo experience, this is purely from a co-op perspective and enjoyment.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is everything I could have wished for in an upgrade and then some. Every single possible issue I've had with the game was fixed with a simple google search. This "DLC" is anything but a minor adjustment. It adds in a whole slew of monsters, enough to warrant the title of a bonafide expansion.

If you've enjoyed your time in MHW and wanted more out of it, this DLC is a no brainer purchase. With the introduction of the guiding lands and a continuously evolving layered armor selection, this game has gone full tilt into fashion hunter mode. Definitively more than positive in my books.

Let me start by saying I have been a fan of the series since the original titles, I've acquired and played every single version up until the 3DS. I've been wanting a PC port for the longest time and have gone to various titles in order to scratch the MH itch.

In my humble opinion, this game has done an amazing job at creating the most remarkable experience for new and old players alike. New players to the series will never have to struggle with:

- visiting their farm between every quest
- having to be in the online guildhall in order to post quests for people to join
- needing combo books to raise the crafting success chances
- having to wait through gathering animations on different gathering points during missions
- having to memorize where every gathering point is
- carrying a map until you learn what area leads into another
- loading screens between areas

The list goes on and on with everything this version has improved on over the past experiences.

Graphically, the game is stunning, every map and environment feels like it is alive. The ecosystem interactions are great to see, frankly fun as well regardless how many times I watch a scripted event for territory struggles.

While the game currently falls short on the networking bug that's been plaguing the community, I do not see it as the horrible experience people are talking about. Yes, it is annoying at times, but I'm still able to play with my friends regardless.

Would I still be purchasing the game, knowing what I do now in regards to the bugs? Absolutely. The game itself is still the best in the series by a long shot.

***UPDATE*** Since my initial review, the game has undergone a ludicrous amount of bugfixes. I have yet to encounter any problems whatsoever with the game at this point. All aboard the hunting train!

If you're new to the series and do not like a challenge, I will not recommend it to you. This game requires you to learn from your mistakes and not repeat them.

Easily one of the most fun platforms on the market. Tabletop Simulator is not a game, it enables you to play games. Board games, card games, anything you can think of. You can even re-create your own games in it (assuming they don't already exist on the workshop).

I got this on sale, but I also purchased it for friends, easily the best purchase I've made on steam.
