A couple hours into this demo has me feeling very - "meh". I'm not sure if there's enough time before final release for the quirks and issues this game has to be worked out to a polished product worthy of the pre-order price tag. I want to love this game, I really do - but there's just so many steps backward from previous installments that leave me questioning what the design concept was when this game was drafted.

It's a cool idea, it tries to be an in-depth construction simulator. The graphics are pretty, optimization for a demo is okay at best. The controls need to be re-worked. Playing with a controller, (as most people who play this game will do) presents an issue where a button used to control low gear is the same key being used for certain elements of the UI. This happened to me many times during the first and second area in the demo. The UI could also do with some revision. To my knowledge, the map is not maneuverable like it is in Snowrunner, making it difficult to navigate raw ground. Mission objectives don't always follow a systematic approach, they're laid out in a weird jumble at times. Mission information is sometimes buried behind sub-menus...to put it simply, it just doesn't flow the way it should.

It would be nice to see vehicle damage, fuel consumption, and the ability to turn on/off engine, headlights, beacon, etc. There is very little control over transmissions and drive line, you have auto forward-reverse and an engageable low gear, AWD and diff lock, that's it. Flattening sand for the road you built in the second area was an awkward task. The sand just doesn't flatten, it creates many dips and humps that made me question if the devs have ever seen a front loader in action. This makes laying asphalt an even more difficult task. By the time I was done, I'm pretty sure I gave myself an "F" for constructing a short stretch of road.

In it's current state, I just can't recommend anyone to pre-order this game. I feel like it needs at least another year in development. Hopefully the devs work diligently to correct the wrongs and release a good product.

I haven't played My Time At Portia, but I love this game. The grind sets in fairly early but if you like looter/crafting/grinding then this game is for you.

Would love to see a co-op single player added, this game really needs it.
