This is a fantastic demo for a game I'm very excited for. It has a highly satisfying gameplay loop that I could see being extended in innumerable directions. Cute art style and neat growth mechanics.

I've played this game on and off since legacy Haven circa 2009. It's a fantastic, unique game with rich systems and many overlapping, highly-satisfying gameplay loops. You can make the cutest little farm with any number of farm animals and crops. You can go cave diving, hunt bears and boars, and go on a cozy fishing trip with your friends. You can nerd out if you're an arborist or geologist with the 80 different species of trees and 70 different types of stone. I cannot stress how deceptively deep this game is.

On the other hand, imagine the worst person you know. Somebody whose apparent sole goal in life is to ruin everyone else's day. Somebody who would steal from your purse and blame you for not keeping a close eye on it. Somebody who thinks multicultural relationships are tainting bloodlines. Somehow this is that guy's favorite game, and he brought all his friends.

I implore anybody considering playing this game to visit the forums and browse the hot topics in "The Moot". The developers' Laissez-faire moderation style in the forums is representative of their moderation in-game as well. If you see a massive paved nazi flag on your afternoon foraging trip, that'll be there forever. You might log off one day and log in the next with your flax field replaced by a swastika, and all indications point to Jorb and Loftar being completely okay with this.

Haven & Hearth has a severely punishing permadeath system and open-season PvP. There is no way to guarantee you will not encounter a terrible person who will stop at nothing to ruin your farm sim, and with Haven being added to Steam, there are a significant number of players whose primary intention is to chase new players away.

One last note, Jorb and Loftar have a storied history of dropping off the face of the Earth with no notice for several months before returning to wipe a world and start fresh. Be prepared to binge this game for a few weeks, because nothing you build will be there when you get back if you take a break.

Palworld is Ark: Survival Evolved with Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild style movement. Journey to a legally-distinct big tree, battle bosses in legally-distinct forever prisons, and collect familiar but legally-distinct pocket pals. Love it.
