Primarily, this game is a linear FPS, but spliced in are elements of survival horror, with its dark, claustrophobic settings that induce dread, scarce ammo (at least on the hard difficulties), and moments of hallucinations.

However, I highly recommend reading the book on top of playing this, as the game omits many details. Obviously, the game couldn't possibly include every plot point, and the game acts more like a condensed retelling with some tweaks to certain events.

Play in Russian for the authentic Metro experience.

Definitely a product of its time (2012): cover based third-person shooter set to modern military action. Sometimes the controls are a bit janky, but there's responsive enough to be satisfying. Gun variety is a bit limited, but there's enough to acomodate for different play styles.

The narrative has a more depth and the main character you play, Walker, has more development than any other generic cookie-cutter character from modern military shooters of its time. Unlike the games of its time that glorifies the US military, this game goes in the opposite direction and condemns them. It's hard to say I "enjoyed" this game given its plot points. "Thoroughly engrossed" in it may be a better way to put it. I suppose its better think of it like a horror game, in that you don't find it fun, but become invested in it enough to want to push forward, with exciting shooting action being a means to progress the story.

Decent gameplay with a provocative story. I recommended playing it on "Suicide Mission" difficulty for a challenge (FUBAR can be a bit too punishing).

It's everything you loved about the classic AoE2 and so much more: new civs, new techs, new maps, new modes, and a slick graphical overhaul to make everything beautiful. Definite recommend for all lovers of RTS.

Edit: It's been over 3 years, and the devs continue to update the game with new civilisation, balance patches and quality of life improvements. Truly a labour of love.

Best of the Fallout series. I wish Obsidian were allowed to make more of them in this style.

HOLY CRAP!!!

This game is so heartpoundingly awesome I get exhausted every time I play it. Easily, one of the greatest shooters of all time. Stop reading this review, buy this game. On sale, off sale, whenever. You owe it to yourself to play it.

!!!~ONLY BUY ON SALE~!!!

While I think it's not as good as New Vegas, there's still a great amount of enjoyment to be had. That being said, I can't recommend this at full price.

The ruins of Boston make a fantasic setting to explore and there's no shortage of things to do. I've managed to clock in over 400 hours and still discovering new things (and I haven't tried the DLC yet either).

The story is not as quirky or engaging as New Vegas, and at times takes itself too seriously. But, there's a good amount of sidequests and supporting characters to liven the mood.

I for one love the settlement building. I just wish the base game came with more options for buildings. I had to download mods and buy the DLC to get a more satisfying settlement building experience.

The only real dissapointment are the lack of dialogue options and skill checks are only Charisma based.

Ignore the in-app purchases, they're pointless, and mod to your liking (THIS WILL DISABLE ACHIEVEMENTS, BUT THERE IS A FIX FOR THAT).
