I don't really play RTS games usually. What drew me to this one was the norse theme and art style. It's a charming game that I still enjoy after years, playing the occasional game with a friend. I enjoy it very casually and for that it is lovely. I don't know if the different clans are very balanced (there are so many now) but it certainly allows for a variety of playstyles.

I usually don't play survival games, but this game not too heavy on the survival mechanics, I believe. Regularly eating food increases your health and stamina, but that's mostly it. Being cold at night or wet from swimming/rain have some debuffing effects while being well rested is a bonus, but the playability of the game does not rely to heavy on it. The challenges of Valheim lie in progression and fighting monsters/surviving in increasingly deadly biomes, not in the constant maintenance of your character. I'm assuming that's what makes it appealing to such a wide audience.

The building aspect of the game is so fun and addicting! It's also great that you immediately get back the resources when breaking down a building part, so (re)designing your base and experimenting does not become frustrating.

Certainly, there's room for improvement, although I'm not even through with the game and don't know what else is to come in regards to crafting. I'm aching for options to make bags or something to increase inventory space. But the game is still in early access and I'm excited to see what else is to come.

The graphics are an ingenious mix of old school pixely design (which I find charming and honestly refreshing), while still using state of the art lighting and effects, which blends so well to what I can only call "simply beautiful".

All in all it's just a great fun game!

So far there are only 2 episodes out, but I can strongly recommend this game, also considering it only costs 5 Euros. I love the chill atmosphere of late summer days combined with the soundtrack, the story is interesting and the time-rewind mechanic allows you to check out different actions and their effect in the same play-through until you stick with your choice and move on to the next scene. Your choices definitely affect the story and have consequences.

The graphics, lip sync etc. might not be high quality, sure, but keep in mind how cheap this game is! For that it's a great experience. And I didn't come across any bugs either.
