You don't need to read my review; you already know the game is outstanding. Easily the best live service game I've ever played.

So I'm gonna highlight one thing that I think people are forgetting to mention: This game appreciates your time, and doesn't waste it:

- The queue time is often under 10 seconds.
- There is a free loadout, that is arguably far too good at the moment. So even if you don't have any good equipment, or don't want to risk your really good stuff, you can still immediately play.
- You get a reasonable amount of free crafting resources after you finish each game.
- The whole first battlepass is completeable within 30 hours; dramatically less than any other I've done in recent years. If you targeted feats really hard, this could come way down.
- The weeklies (trials) can be contributed to in any game you play. With good targeting, you could easily get a good leaderboard placing off of just 5-10 games (2-3 hours).
- I am yet to die in game and feel so frustrated that I don't want to play again. Even losing what for me is currently a good loadout, I don't come out of the game feeling angry.

Just fantastic; I think I'll be playing for a long time to come.

I must admit, I have hundreds of hours in the original "Startopia" from when I was a kid and my dad bought me the original game from a charity shop. So I'm a big fan of the original game and was hoping this would largely be a re-texturing of the original game.

I spent all of 8 minutes in a sandbox level and decided that I had seen enough. My major gripes:

* The camera controls are utterly terrible.
* It feels like the game needs a way higher FOV.
* Some of the alien races have been completely changed (security race, the angel race, the religious race).
* All of the races have been somewhat renamed.
* Various core buildings have been removed.
* Scuzzers are replaced with fuzzies (I can't overstate my disgust).
* The fuzzies have 0 character, unlike the scuzzers who had such original movement and animations.
* The bio deck looks really weird, I can't describe it.

I have requested a refund, and will likely just buy the original (and clearly best) version of the game.

A chill 4-6 hour puzzle game, that's more about the story and the message it tries to leave you with than the puzzles.

Beautiful music and visuals, and a well executed bittersweet ending.

Definitely worth a playthrough.

This game has some pretty big problems, but overall I'm enjoying it.

Performance is massively below what I'd expect (1070 ti and on 1080p all low settings I get below 60fps on BTB maps). And I get massive input loss seemingly at random, occasionally ruining a gun fight.

I wouldn't pay for this tho. If the campaign is affected in the same way as the multiplayer, I'd be very annoyed if I pay for it.

This game is the first true example in my opinion of a game that is presented as a book. It does not feel like you are playing a game, it feels like you are living through an epic novel.

It is one of the best pieces of visual media ever made. It gives you such freedom in what you can do, in how you can approach the story laid out before you. And it isn't afraid to present you with some really ugly situations and force you to make difficult decisions, that will leave you feeling uncomfortable.

It is hard to find a single criticism of this game. Do yourself a favour, and go into this game blind. It is something that needs to be experienced.

I do recommend this game: it's just too nostalgic not to like.

But fair warning: the PC port is poor.

Really simple things that could have been fixed haven't, for example:

* To double scope on the UNSC sniper rifle you have to hit right click to zoom once, then Z for the second zoom level. Would have been more appropriate to do what CS:GO does for the AWP: a second click goes to zoom level two.
* Steering vehicles is done based on where your mouse is looking. The A and D keys don't do anything when you drive. This is the most baffling thing that has been missed.
* The options menu is unbelievably lack lustre. No graphics options of any kind.
* All of the GUI is console oriented, so everything takes 3 more clicks than it needs to.
* For some reason, server region is not selectable. So I as a West EU player am getting put into NA games at least half of the time. Utterly unacceptable.
* When the jump pack is equipped, you have to press shift to use it like all armour abilities. So if you jump and jet pack, you have to hit space and then hold shift which is very awkward. It would make far more sense to also engage the jump pack, if space is held after a jump.

I'll add to the above as I find more problems. Furthermore, I don't know if this is on the table for the future, but I would really like to see some balance and QOL changes to the game with regards to the combat. The big ones for me:

* The DMR needs to be nerfed. It's far too good on PC, where you can hit the vast majority of your rounds at cross map ranges.
* Taking damage should not unscope you in any gun (except maybe the UNSC sniper, and Focus Rifle). Connected to the above, you can't return fire on DMR/Needle Rifle spammers, because each time you take damage you unscope.

Maybe this game was good when it came out, but it has aged atrociously:

* The story and dialogue in particular, are appalling. I'm someone who doesn't like the concept of Political Correctness, but this game is overtly racist in a whole slew of ways.

* Chiefly, the plot is about the white man saving the poor defenceless pacific islanders from themselves. They have no chance of saving themselves, they need the white man to liberate them. Vaas even has a dialogue line ridiculing you for this, saying that you have "jungle fever".

* The islanders themselves (the unnamed NPCs, Rakyat soldiers etc) not only have some of the worst voice acting I've ever heard in a game, but are literally early 1900s caricatures of Asian people.

* Citra is an utterly wasted character, who is only in the game to provide Jason with a native to ♥♥♥♥, to complete his "white saviour" character arc. And then the inclusion of the second ending where you kill your friends (for no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason after you were already forced to save Riley) just to ♥♥♥♥ her, makes it even more insulting.

* The side missions are universally appalling, the vast majority are not fun or engaging.

* The crafting system is unbalanced and broken, you can get all of the upgrades way too quickly.

* The second half of the game (after Vaas is killed)

Aspects of the game that aren't trash:

* Vaas and Hoyt are excellent characters, especially Vaas. One of the best antagonists in the Xbox 360/PS3 era of games. Excellently voice acted too.

* The gunplay is reasonably enjoyable, especially on higher difficulties.

* Driving feels smooth and rewarding when executed well.

I'd recommend just skipping this and playing FarCry4 if you want to get into the games (or go back to FarCry2, almost certainly the best game in the series).

Easily the best free to play game on steam. Can legitimately be played in the free version too, purchases are cosmetic or "quality of life".

Perfect business model.
