Very promising game with a lot of very interesting concepts however it has been seemingly abandoned by the publisher in an unfinished state

In my opinion this game absolutely bangs.
It's like a Rimworld colony in the background as you advance through a roguelite style mission with a Slay the Spiresque map. The combat plays very similarly to Don't Starve in crew to crew combat when boarding while ship to ship combat is more like a top down Sea of Thieves where you or your crew members are bringing ammo from storage to canons then firing them when the enemy ship is in your line of fire/range.
The game has a system where you can optionally take a one minute break to simply sail and play colony management after every map event or just go right to the next one, it allows you to finish a run in around 30 minutes or spend two hours on a run which I really enjoy.
I had a ton of fun in this game so far, there's a lot of different events with choice trees similar to Slay the Spire or FTL and the different tactics or playstyles of the crew weapons and ship canons was a lot of fun to play with, but I wouldn't say that this game has reached infinite replayability yet. I think you could easily get one hour out of every dollar you could put into Cursed Crew at the point it's currently at though, and with more stuff I could see myself sinking thousands of hours into this game. I'm currently playing past the point of unlocking anything just for fun.
Also the people who made this have made really high work quality in the past. I've gotten hundreds of hours for free out of mods they made, as soon as I heard they had made a standalone game I was opening up the steam store to buy it and man, they are really cookin over there in the Netherlands.
All in all 9/10 game, probably 10/10 when they add more content. Insane more people don't play this I hope it blows up

Edit, as of now there have been very few updates for this game. I have a lot of trust in the people who made this game from their previous work however the only patch in the past like 6 months was a minor bug fix and nothing new has been added since I originally wrote this review. If the price tag is a problem for you at all I would wait to purchase this game until the developer proves they are not going to simply abandon this game.

Edit #2, the developer has put out an update today explaining his situation and the reason for a lack of updates. His response and re-commitment to developing this game has swayed me back in favor of a positive review. Of course indie games have less resources and staff to post frequent updates and his honesty as well as his willingness to communicate these issues are, in my opinion, a sign of a good developer. I will state again that his previous works, which were made without appropriate compensation, were always an obvious labor of love to me and were never short of incredible. I would also note that while these infrequent updates may be a turn off to some people I have been able to get more than 70 hours of incredibly fun gameplay from the current alpha version of the game, which to me would more than justify the current $20 price, and I will certainly be playing a lot more when the upcoming update launches, because of that I will once again change my stance to recommending you purchase this game if it interests you. Again, due to my experiences with content from this developer I have much more trust in them than I do in any other developer and I wholeheartedly expect this game to be another incredible piece of work from them.
