Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons and Stardew Valley fans rejoice!

This game is pretty much the same as them, but with a more detailed and cutesy pixel art, an RPG/Fantasy theme with magic and dragons, a LOT of Quality of Life features imbued into the mechanics, and even more customizable than SV when it comes to decoration.

Some of the QoL features that I enjoy in this game, even if they make it more of a casual game (it's a farming sim after all) are:

  1. You can JUMP over obstacles and some ledges, you can also SWIM and dive to get some stuff, neat.
  2. Stores are all open 24/7 and do not depend on the owner being there to use them.
  3. There is not exactly a fishing mini-game; you wait for the fish to bite and catch them (it's better than I'm explaining).
  4. Quests are not time sensitive; you can take your time doing them.
  5. You can change how fast time ticks by, and if passing out at 2 AM has consequences
  6. Crafting anywhere accesses your items in all storage you have (except house upgrades, I believe)
  7. The maps are pretty detailed and show NPC locations in real time, no need to chase them around or use mods
  8. If you drop an item, or can't fit it in your bag, the item persists (DOES NOT DISAPPEAR) during the night, so drop things you don't need with the "G" key and come back for them later, no rush.
  9. Cosmetics do not take inventory space after you unlock them, just like recipes, and you can change which ones you wear anytime, anywhere.

The game is still in active development, with the second big update being released recently.

There is an RPG system where you unlock perks (that can be turned on and off easily) that will make taking care of your farm, combat and exploring easier and more fun.

The story is pretty nice, some of it is mixed in with some NPC relationship cutscene events, some depend on you donating items to improve the town, which unlocks some stuff for you too!

The NPC interactions in general are amazing, really seem alive and not like some rigid repeating dialogue. They even have a Friday night meetup for fun and games, literally.

In my honest opinion, the grind in this game is pretty low. You may need to grind some wood/stone for buildings or some other materials if you never keep a stockpile, but they can always be bought somewhere, too.

What could/may improve in future updates:

Some of what I say here may already be planned, or maybe I just haven't unlocked it yet, and I don't know, but I'll say it anyway.

There really should be a way of maxing friendship with all NPCs, even the bachelor/ette(s), without committing to marriage or romance. Rune Factory 4 does this in a cool way, with multiple choices that clearly state which option affirms your romantic interest (with a heart symbol, I believe).

I think there should be a cutscene introduction to fishing, probably tied to a mission like the pickaxe one, usually there always is.

Same for the shovel, maybe. It is kind of a redundant tool, though.

A way to improve chances of getting magically infused items (and/or even control which infusion) when crafting them, maybe using essence, extra items or both.

What is still not in the game?

The final 2 relationship/heart events/cutscenes are still not implemented, but are being worked on. Currently, it's not possible to get married, have children or see 8 or 10 heart events for the bachelor/ette(s).

There are at least a couple of buildings on the map that do not seem to have any function, they will probably have a separate quest to repair and be used again. Maybe one will even unlock a boat or new map.

There is some automation, but not a lot. No Harvest Sprites, Junimo or hiring help system, maybe it is not even completely needed though, because of perks and tool upgrades.

Someone, please tell me if there is an Orange Tree somewhere on the map, it's the only one I have not found yet. If it's in the Secret Woods, that would explain it, since I haven't unlocked that area yet.

This game is amazing, play it without spoilers to experience everthing fully. The fear it can cause is soon replaced by the wonder of exploration, but can always kick back in. The lore in the world and story is very damn cool. Art is fantastic. Finished the game 3-4 times and still come back to play with mods.

I recommend to get this game on a sale.

It is a good solo survival game, I belive it still needs some balance to reduce the grinding and farming on lower dificulties, but I enjoy it very much. It also has coop mode so you can play multiplayer.

It's still in development and there's a good comunity in the Discord channel that can give suggestions and get help with issues.

I really like solo survival games where I don't have to worry about someone cheating/hacking the game or where there are high chances of me being destroyed by higher level players.

This game is awesome.

Combat is waay better than Witcher 2.

You see old characters, it's not necessary to know the past 2 games to enjoy this one, but it's better to do so (other two are cheap when on sales).

All the monsters have entries detailed on the Bestiary. There are many bombs, oils, potions and decoctions that you use.

Some free DLCs and 2 major expansions that are great.

Gwent (the mini game) is cool, there's a game only about it.

If on sale look for the GOTY edition and get it, comes with the expansions.

This game is amazing. It is better in every way than the older version.

I started and restarted my characaters in this game many times, focusing on different skills and ways to play, everytime was fun as hell.

You'll see your character rising to power and in skill as time goes by, with the right party you can have very good soldiers that complement your skills and with good cavalry and footman conquer any army and castle!

Once you get used to the fighting system, it becomes very smooth to play.

If you enjoyed Harvest Moon you'll probably love this game. It is a lot more customizable than HM though.

It is a farm sim, you can build in your farm: paths, decorations and some utility items, barns and coops. mine for gems and ores while fighting monsters (combat is simple), fish in lakes, rivers and the ocean.

There are skills with perks once certain levels are reached, and leveling them up unlocks crafting recipies.

I love that there are some secrets scatterred arround in the game and that every NPC has a story and schedule for the week and each season.

The developer is also active and making this game better with some updates.

- Edit 10/11/2016:

As of v. 1.1 there are multiple farm layouts that you can choose in the start of the game; a shed that you can build to store chests or utility/processing blocks for animal products (cheese, mayo, etc); and a mill among other things.

There are many ways to play this game, there is not exactly and end to it, because once "finished" you can choose to keep playing on your farm. The new farm layouts brought some more replayability, but the most amazing thing for me is still improving your famr little by little every game day and unfolding the story of Stardew Valley.
