2 HEFTY scenarios and maps that will take you a while to get through. Electric trains are awfully nice too: no supply towers and no waiting on supply towers, and tractive power for days, makes these scenarios quite lovely. You still have gains by building level track but you're not grounded if your cars have to scale a mountain. The 2nd scenario feels a lot longer than the first, combined you're looking at 20+ and 30+ hours to finish them. DLC is worth it for electric trains alone.

Buy if you're a trainiac and want to tip the devs

But don't buy if you're expecting anything meaningful in return for this 'upgrade,' I mean you spend 95% of your time a mile high above the map, you'll rarely even see or appreciate the reskins.

TBH they could spend a minute adding more meaningful stuff to this upgrade to make it seem worthwhile at all.

Engrossing story that is interesting in that you have to do all the work to uncover 80% of it through collectible lore items. If you're just looking to play the action itself, the 20% covers quite a lot but you'll definitely be rewarded for collecting and reading/absorbing the rest. This world they've build is build on icebergs of deep lore this title only scratches the surface of while its sequel(s) and Alan Wake etc. expand much more. Combat wise you're going to be quite the one woman army by the end of the game, especially as you complete the expansion content. Ahti is the GOAT.

The polish is missing, but the bones and guts of a fun star trek game are definitely here. Build out the polish and the trekkies will come: voice lines, proofread the dialog, etc.; even if you aren't a trekkie: this is an easy to approach Choose Your Own Adventure book, and it's awesome for that.

The very brief combat tutorial really was the lowpoint, but overall just something fun about reinhabiting VOY.

Amazing split screen game. Starts off deceptively simple almost on 'story' difficulty (Ironic, given the content) but it definitely ramps things up as it familiarizes you with more and more game mechanics. It would be a crime to spoil even just some of the stuff in the first few hours, but this is definitely a milestone of a title that everyone who likes video games, science fiction and/or fantasy needs to get their hands on especially if you have a player 2 - and I love sci fi and my wife loves fantasy so this was an instant blind purchase. GOTY?

Incredibly faithful to Battletech lore, from the characters to the events to the speech and culture. Clans is a fantastic uplift to MW5 that brings it into the 4K era. Full of unironically fantastic 80s scifi style music, you'll be pew-pewing your way through a tons of narratively chained missions as opposed to the open format of Mercenaries.

Between each mission your Star, has 5 days to research, rearm, and repair. Omnimech tech makes mech customization between missions frighteningly easy, while if you take too much damage, you may want to 'bid on more mech-techs to get your Star up to full strength. There is a lot of customization options, without being overly complicated, eg. adding armor to mechs takes up a loadout general slot, and comes in 'pods' of ablative armor packs, 0.25T, 0.5T and 1T each. Customization is very different as a result to Mercenaries, but it fits the Clan style, they are very adaptable and modular systems. Couple this with 4 Star-mates who have fleshed out characterization, skills, affinities, etc.; eg. Liam can skill up in making ECM more effective on his Mechs, Ezra is better with energy weapons, Mia is better with Ballistics and so on. You can also unlock 'affinity' for a character, to make one of your pilot's skills work 10% better in light mechs, or 20% better in a particular chassis of mech for example. Mech chassis also net you mech XP that can be used to unlock different omnipods for your mechs, which default with "Prime" variant pods for that Mech, with A B C D etc. pods available to unlock that give you access to vastly different loadouts: try switching your Viper to all ER Small Lasers and Armor Pods and go on a killing spree early game. Ditto the Nova. And if that's too cheesy: you can replay past missions in the simpod to unlock more XP and achieve advanced objectives, like beating the missions again using undertonnage and stock loadouts.

I'd reccomend this game highly to anyone who is already familiar with Battletech, and it's a fantastic starting point for any curious new players. My only other early game tip is to upgrade your salavage ops ASAP as high as you can bear vs. repair stackup, and make sure you are researching as much as possible as well between missions, because you won't be able to unlock everything in one campaign run, and you will have a limited amount of time, and resources you can collect to do so throughout the story. But that's just more opportunity for replay value right? Heh.
