Gray Zone Warfare – Not Recommended (For Now)

Gray Zone Warfare has potential. The core gameplay loop is there, but the current execution is rough, to say the least.

The updates so far have been small and haven’t done much to push the game forward. Visibility is a mess. At times, it feels like it was made for people who play with their eyes closed. Whether it’s the lighting, clutter, foliage, or upscaling, it often works against you instead of helping you play the game.

Performance is also in a bad spot. It runs about as well as Star Citizen. Frame drops and generally low FPS are common, even on decent hardware.

The sound design doesn’t help either. Sometimes you hear shots and can't tell if it’s aimed at you or your buddy five buildings away. It’s inconsistent and confusing, which makes situational awareness a real challenge.

Gunplay is... hard to explain. It just doesn’t feel right. Shooting feels clunky, and there’s very little feedback when firing or handling weapons. It’s like the guns are just floating in your hands, disconnected from any real sense of weight or impact.

AI has improved a bit. At least bots don’t beam you through bushes anymore, so that’s something. But they’re still a mess. Sometimes they miss everything, and sometimes they one-tap you from a bush like they’ve been camping there all day. It’s not fun, and you often don’t even get the chance to react or heal before getting dropped. Other times they just stand in the open like cardboard cutouts with rifles, barely responding even when you’re lighting them up.

In short, Gray Zone Warfare could eventually be something special, but it’s not there yet. The foundation is solid, but performance, AI, gunplay, sound design, and overall polish need serious attention. For now, it’s one to keep an eye on, not one to play.

The game definitely has potential, and I found the gameplay to be quite enjoyable overall. It has that engaging feel that mixes CoD and Valorant. However, the menus are an absolute mess. There are just countless options to buy skins and an overwhelming amount of currencies... honestly, I’m not even sure what half of them are for.

The front screen alone is cluttered with notifications: two different announcements about new skins, a shop, another shop tab (I think?), and a battle pass. It’s just way too much. Instead of getting excited to jump into the game, I felt more exhausted trying to navigate through all these options. The focus on microtransactions makes everything feel a bit meaningless.

Overall, if they could streamline the menu and make it more lets say consumer-friendly, this game could really shine. Right now, it’s marred by an obnoxious interface. As a plus, it seems to be only cosmetic, but it'll take some time to get a grip on this menu. More isn't better.

This is probably the best strategy game i've ever played. The Game is still getting updated with new content and performance fixes. Also every run feels unique and special due to the random ingame events. It's up to you how you craft your empire over the span of a playthrough. Exterminate all biological life in the galaxy? Enslave xeno scum? Start a holy crusade or even form a peaceful alliance? Well, the game got you covered. The only downside i can think of is the slow game speed (performance) at a later stage due to the huge amount of stuff going on and micromanaging your worlds. But even this is getting worked on at the moment.
