I remember being wow'ed by the environment and being immersed in the military camp when I first spawned in Onward 1.7, but I got distracted by Half Life: Alyx and put Onward on the backburner for a few months and came back after hearing about about commotions.

It is true. Onward went Backward.

Coming back to Onward, I lost that initial immersed feeling. The new 1.8 environment feels like Minecraft. Textures are muddy beyond 2 feet. Grass looks like its from Morrowind or Oblivion. Some texture float mid air. And models have clipping issues.

AI bad guys don't walk around anymore. And when bad guys die, they don't ragdoll, they just replay the same few animations.

The reworked suppression cone is abysmal. It is more distracting and annoying compared to the one before, where it actually induced the feeling of being shot at.

Overall, the 1.7 experience was fabulous and the 1.8 experience was extremely meh.

However, on the bright side, the 1.8 game is constantly running at 144fps.

I think I'd recommend Pavlov or Contractors over Backward at its current state.

Siege battle pacing and experience are comparatively worse than previous Total War titles.
