Very ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥ port. I spend 2 hours trying to mod the game so it wouldn't crash on start up, have 1080 resolution, and getting keyboard and mouse to work. Probably a good game, but I can't even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ play it so :/

Doesn't even have 1080 resolution or 60 fps without mods.

Early Access Review
This is going to be a very confusing review, and I'm letting you know that now, because of the split between smash players and casuals. The first half of the this review will be for casual people who haven't gotten into smash.

From a casual playpoint:
This game is very good game to play, even if you never want to go into any competativeness. The game is very easy to pick up and learn with a few posts on reddit, you could learn all the combos pretty easily. I learned this never playing many fighting games, and have before Season 1 have become Platnium with just pure dedication. The community is great, and are great for new players as well. There is a whole discord chat for people gold and below learning the game. However this brings up one concern that it feels a bit reliant on the community, and if you don't want to go that extra step to look at the Brawlhalla reddit, you may have a bad time, since there is no real teaching tools in the game other than training mode. Other than that the community is accesable and great, and the game is easy to play, and relativly speaking easy to master as well. One of my real life friends, has for a while, been one of the best in the world, and he isn't some giant e-sport nerd that spent 15 years on the game and streams it for a living, we are still in school! Anyone could be good at this game, without having to dedicate a big chunk of your life. I think the biggest chunk I played this game in was an hour and a half. Not only has it been a great experience to play, it has also been a great entry way to playing games competative. Because of this game I have actually took the time to play smash, and play Rivals of Aether, and it wasn't that hard because of this game being a stepping stone.

Now it's that time of the review, the wave-dashing, multishing, part for smash players.

If you are looking for a a smash experience, you aren't going to find it. The game is much slower, semi rng based, and is a lot easier. There is not 3 frame tech, and there isn't the smash diversity that made each character different. Each character is unique in their own right, but compared to smash, each character feels like a Doctor Mario to Mario, a Roy to Marth. Because of the weapon mechanic, each character can feel stale. and the game itself as well because of the internal longing for diversity. You aren't going to find it. The fact anyone can pick up and play, hurts the small competative scene. There are some pretty advanced things you could do, but it is still nothing compared to smash tech. There is no 20 frame data to tech, there is no 3 tech perfect pivot you can't do it. I'm not saying this as an insult to the game, but it is like the game in the title, Brawl. A more casual game, that can't really scene, and this isn't an insult to either game, but those are my emotions. Most combos are true and there is no DI or tech you want to do. If you play smash competativly, this game isn't for you, and you know what? That isn't a bad thing. You open up Dolphin and play Melee 20XX netplay edition. You sit there for half an hour practicing your multishine approaches. You find the next combo everyone is going to use.

Extra notes

The character system is frustruating. I understand the store and why it's there but having to buy characters, especially at that price, needs a lot of grinding. Just to main a character you need to spend at least a week just to be able to play them, and it is extremely frustrating.

Game updates a lot, and listens to ideas and compaints. Great community and great devs.

If you want to play this game, and want to get good? Go to the subreddit please! This is how I learned, by looking at what people do, and how to combo. The game has no other entry point for learning these.
