The DLCs both take the core concept and push it to its peak.
Sams Story feels like Metro Exodus at its best. Open world with a well written story,
however the boss fights could be better.
The Two Colonels is Metro at its peak aswell, less open world and in the Metro system of an entirely different city it could easily stand on its own legs as a seperate game and succesor to 2033 and last light. however its rather short, so doesnt overstay its welcome, but leaves you wanting for more!

If you Have Exodus but are unsure about the DLCs, go get them! Each DLC constitutes the runtime of some much more expensive games, tell a better story and cost a lot less at the same time.

right of the bat, if you have Exodus buy both DLCs, they are worth it and both corespond to what is esentialy a 50$ full price game for a lot less.

The Two Colonels is simply amazing!

Oh you wanna know more?
In the grand scheme of the Metro games this is the Peak of the Metro! by this i mean the setting of the tunnels and linear nature of previous games.
it does everything right in terms of gameplay, story and pacing.
a voiced player character is also quite nice and actualy adds a loooot more insight into the character itself, surounding ones and the story beeing told.
all in all the only downside of this DLC is that i wish there was more!
its the shortest Exodus DLC but still constitutes a runtime of some 60$ games out there, at a fraction of the cost!

Sams Story is Metro Exodus at its Peak.
While this is technicaly an open World it is less open than you think, slowly pushing you along new areas but letting you explore each at your own pace.
For newer Metro titles this is the prefect formula between linear and open and i hope they will continue thos.

The Story is interesting and keeps you hooked and there is plenty to explore in it, a nice new addition is the fact that your character actualy talks and contributes in conversations rather than beeing mute.

the weakest part of the game are the Boss Fights against the Bat Monster but they dont detract to much from the DLC.

Exodus is a beautiful game.
Stunning graphics, amazing gameplay and an open world done right!
Unlike most Open World games this one doesnt just copy pasta objectives all over, no! Each of the open world maps, there are 3, is handcrafted with unique objectives and POIs.
intermixed into the open world sections are linear levels driving the story, aswell as the train levels that are purely optional but let you listen in and even interact with your fellow Spartans, the friendly troops you fight alongside with.

on the grpahics aspect this is most definetly one of the best looking games i have ever played and the followup Enhanced edition is even prettier altho not much, but locked behind raytracing.

Gunplay feels solid, combat feels great and enemies feel challenging, definetly a step up from the redux versions but luckily not broken like in 2033.

The story is somewhere inbetween 2033 and last light. my personal opinion is that it peaked with LL but it is still solid and especialy in the train levels show you the depth each character you regularly interact has.

This Redux version of Last Light surprisingly fixes a lot of minor issues the original game had.
AI was to weak, the fact important gameplay content beeing locked behind DLCs and such. None of those issues are present here however. All DLC content is accesable, the Graphics have been overhauled and the AI has been adjusted to a good point where they dont feel overpowered (like in 2033) yet dont feel weak (like in last light)

Story wise i feel like this is one of the strongest Metro has to offer, however one new to the series still has to listen in on side conversations like in the original games to fully grasp all of it, however not as much as you used to.
The beginning of the game is propably one of the weakpoints the game has as it handholds you a lot and slows progress to a crawl, it does introduce a lot of interesting characters that you will remember tho.

This is the Version every newcomer to Metro should get. While it makes fights easier it also makes them less predictable. that aside this is a major improvement over the original. a complete engine overhaul, AI adjustments to make fights fair, a better UI and loads and loads of bug fixes.

Just like in my Metro 2033 review this has much the same issues as it is practicaly the same game, however it does improve by getting rid of its janky cutscenes
**Story Wise it shows that this is the first instalment of the franchise, the first title of the studio and a rewrite from a young author for gameplay.
The Game holds your hand a lot as you progress through most areas and if you dont pay attention to "Optional" conversations between NPCs you do miss out on quite a lot.**

While this Game is old and has a lot of glaring issues and bugs, it has a slightly different gameplay loop from the Games coming later.
Enemies are a lot harder, stealth is extremly difficult and to some People this is desireable.
However because of how the engine is build, issues with modern hardware incompatibilites and such it is a better choice to go for the Redux version of the game.
Redux incorporates an overhauled engine and gameplay loop, fixing most if not all bugs but making enemy encounters less difficult and random, no more 1 second insta kills by 1 enemy that can see in the dark.
