The song “baby shark” is a grim allegory of the reality of our society. We start as infants, oblivious to the vast oceans of our future, and we are left too weak to clamp down on fate. We then are forced into adulthood, expected to carry the burden of parenting our future. We then reach old age. At this stage we are too young to truly understand our world, but too old to change fate. We are only left with the rotting gums of our regret. We then are called to hunt, desperately searching for financial and emotional safety. The looming threat of the world falling apart and every plight we go through being for naught. Only at the end are we safe at last, awaiting death. The song ends proclaiming it being the end: not as a triumphant fanfare, but an ever-repeating chorus that mirrors fate.
