By The Mania, For The Mania
Ever since Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric happened, and people were just talking bad about franchise to a even worse extent, I kind of gave up on the franchise and stopped being a Sonic fan from 2014 to 2017, after I've been one for 8 or 7 years.
That was, until I decided to look up Sonic on YouTube for old times sake, and saw the trailers and gameplay footage of Sonic Mania. They were going back to the series' roots, black-eyed, pot-bellied Sonic was back for this anniversary, then I decided to revisit the classics.

I was still on the fence, saying "Sonic is dead.", like the majority of people, but with the game, there could be hope to revive the franchise and have it regain most of it's respect.

Turns out the game was a great success, and was one of the best Sonic games in over 25 years. Now I regret being the guy who keeps on spouting "Sonic is dead" everytime he's mentioned.

The Review
I beated the game multiple times with different characters in order, I own it on PS4 and PC, I got all the gold medals, achievements, and I'm planning on purchasing a physical copy of Mania Plus in the future. I've beaten it more times than I have Sonic 3. I've literally put 33 hours into this game, and I'll be putting 33 more hours into it.

Christian Whitehead and the rest of the Mania Team really nailed what makes Classic Sonic so good to begin with; the level design, gameplay, the physics, and just the overall Sonic feel. What completes it? Tee Lopes' soundtrack, it's incredible. It's on par with Sonic CD's JP soundtrack and Sonic 3's, it's THAT good.

Don't even get me started with the Plus DLC, it's incredible, Mighty and Ray are back from the dead for this one time, and it's great to finally see them again in a official game. Sure, they'll probably be brought back into the sea of forgotten characters afterwards, but here's to hoping lizuka lets them stay for the Classic games, eh? (I heavily doubt he'd let them stay). And Encore Mode is a great way to test your skills as a Sonic player, the real challenge is those special stages and some of their locations. Once you learn you have to keep your ring collecting miminal and the blue ball collecting at a all-time high, then they're pretty easy.

The replayablity is great for this game, and what really heightens that is the mods. Mania has a fantastic modding community, making total conversions, little minor improvements and overall just tiny things that really make you wanna sit down for a hour or two and play through Mania or Encore Mode again.

I forgot to mention, the DROP-DASH. This is a fantastic new move made especially for Mania where if you press the jump button again in mid-air, Sonic will spin and do a light dash on the ground when he drops, it works like a spin-dash kind of. You won't know it's there 'till you try it, and when you do, oh boy, you can't live without it. If you don't like the Drop-Dash for some weird reason, you can change Sonic's abilities and some other things for your liking in the Game Options menu, but you'll have to unlock them by completing a certain set of Blue Sphere stages.

There's also a "& Knuckles" mode. You can have Knuckles tag-along with Sonic, Tails, Mighty, or Ray. Or, you can have Knuckles tag along with Knuckles for an cute little special ending.

Aside from all the greatness, the only negative I hear from people is that it's nostalgia pandering, and, they're not wrong. I wish there could've been more original zones myself, but this was released for Sonic's 25th anniversary, so, you should've expected it would have classic zones, so that's more of a nitpick then a negative to be honest.

The Verdict
Best Sonic game in 25 years is right, Sonic Mania is amazing, and I recommend it to anybody, a Casual Sonic fan, a die-hard Sonic fan like me, or someone who isn't a Sonic fan at all, you'll get enjoyment out of this either way. Sure, there isn't as many original zones and there's more classic zones like Green Hill and the like, but that's just a nitpick in my opinion and not really a big negative.

I give the game 10 Tails choking on a Chili Dog out of 10.

NOTE: Duke3D and World Tour are seperated into their own reviews here.

Duke Nukem 3D is one of my most favorite FPS of all time, nothing, aside from Serious Sam, has surpassed the sheer amount of badass that's this game. The cheesy one-liners, the 80's action movie references, the alien ass kicking, the level design, HNNG it's so great.

But how does the 20th Anniversary World Tour hold up?

The Review

Well, it has a brand new 5th episode called "Alien World Order", which has Duke traveling around the world stopping the alien bastards from invading other parts of the world, and includes a new originally scrapped enemy called the Firefly, which really does have a pretty cool design. The enemy may seem like a burden to kill at first, but one simply rocket in their faces and they're all gone.
The episode itself is... Good, the final boss is just a disappointing reskin of the Cycloid Emperor, and some levels fall flat here and there. But Mirage Barage, Golden Carnage, and High Times have to be the best levels in the entire episode. The new weapon, The Incinerator is nice. But again, you can tell it's just a reskin of the Freezethrower and Expander.

It includes a new rewind feature that was only available in the XBLA version of Duke3D, and developer commentary, which you activate in-game with mic icons, similar to Valve's developer commentary in Half-Life 2: Episode 1 and 2.

The rewind is a nice feature if you're a lazy POS like me and just wanna play the game, and the developer commentary is okay. But considering the fact that you can hear the developers playing the game while talking, I would rather have videos of them playing the game as a unlockable feature to be honest.
And the new recorded lines by John St. John are... Alright, some lines sound better then the originals, while some lack the aggression, the frustration, the grit, and the Clint Eastwood vibe that Duke had in some of his lines. That's what made him badass to begin with, and considering there's a interview with John that has him doing exactly that, I think either the voice direction just sucked ass, or John wasn't paid enough, or they just let him do it his way because after all, he IS Duke Nukem.

The True3D... That's a major improvement, big time. The new lighting is great.

Anyways, and now onto the only things that suck about World Tour...

None of the expansions are included, and the multiplayer needs to be fixed.

I REALLY hope that Gearbox can add the Expansions later as DLC at a reasonable price, but at least Duke it out in D.C. is available for free on the workshop. I don't care if they don't add Duke: Nuclear Winter, since it is kinda crap, but the novelity is nice to own. But seriously, this is what made Megaton Edition so great. You get the main game PLUS the expansions for a reasonable price, but for World Tour the new episode is the reason why the game is priced 20 dollars alone, which is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous move on Randy Pitchford's and Gearbox's part

The sound for everything but Duke's new lines sucked ass and sounded awful, but luckily it was fixed before I got this, so this con can be thrown out the window.

The multiplayer is dead for this game, mostly because of the servers crashing every five minutes. I never got to try it out myself, so... I wouldn't know, personally.

Overall
Duke Nukem 3D is an amazing 10/10 game, and World Tour is pretty good 8/10. I recommend this wholeheartly for people who never got to experience the awesomeness that was Duke3D, but for fans, I recommend getting this when it's on-sale.
