An interesting premise and promising first half is thoroughly wasted in the second by unclear and confusing level design, unintuitive puzzles, and obnoxious enemy spam.

I wasn't expecting much.

It's actually quite a fun RTS, if a little simplistic.

For the singleplayer, you get one doozy of a badly-written campaign, hitting every last stereotype of the Eastern Front. Where you throw wave after wave of your own men at enemy machine guns, betray every ally you meet, and gleefully slaughter your own troops on your way to horribly brutalize the poor innocent German people.

For the multiplayer, abysmal balance is made worse by the fact that nearly everything is gated behind paid DLC, which the game blatantly tries to shove in your face with advertisements taking up much of the main menu.

The first is one of my favorite RTS games of all time. This was a colossal letdown on nearly every level.

Definitely the sequel we've been waiting the better part of a decade for. Smart, immersive, and highly polished, it does the original great justice, while actually managing to improve on its failings with only a few ignorable missteps. Do yourself a favor. Get this game.
