If you like history & grand strategy, give this a shot! It's complicated as hell, but very rewarding once you get the basics down. There's plenty of starting guides you can find online, and Paradox has a great training character for the 1066 start. With the new expansion All Under Heaven, you can even explore medieval China/Japan/Indonesia.


I especially love reforming religions, shaping cultures, and exploring the world in this game.

NEVER buy DLC unless it's on sale. It is a bit crazy that you can spend $100s on this game if you buy all the DLC at retail value.

10/10 game! This game follows a series of murders in a rural Bavarian town over the course of the early 1500s.

This game is full of beautiful storytelling and compelling character choices. The gorgeous illuminations add so much life to the world. I really love the nuance and customization available that unlocks further dialogue options. It encouraged me to start a 2nd playthrough before I even finished Act 2 so I can snoop around more!

If you like any fantasy RPG, you'll probably like this game! Although I have some complaints about the large scale world-building, the actual cities and villages feel alive and immersive. There are some fantastic choices presented in the game with tangible consequences, which really increases my involvement throughout the quests.

Like any game, it has frustrating aspects. Maybe you don't like the card game (Gwent), that's okay! You can skip all those quests. I've been hooked on it after playing twice. The strategy is quite fun!

This game is a great addition to the Civ franchise. The entire districts mechanic makes the planning of cities more important and immersive in a way that makes me a more thoughtful player.
