In this glitchy mess of a "looter shooter" nothing drops loot

Something about this game just scratches my colon in a way a doctor never could.

The entire time I’ve played this game I have thought of it as less punishing, more fun Valheim with the best building system I’ve ever seen in a survival crafting game.

If I were to guess what the developer’s top 3 MUST GET RIGHT aspects are for this game I would say they are: Building, Visuals, and Traversing in that order.

Playing this game is worth it just to experience the building. It is just so well done it is wild. Good building mechanics feed into good visuals. With some of the most gorgeous scenery I’ve ever witnessed in a game, the amazing building system only encourages you to further enhance the scenery to make the stunning visuals your own creation. From sunset to the glow of night, this game is just top tier. And being able to traverse your creations is the most important part, making the world of Nera truly feel lived in by the player. This game is a homerun for these three aspects.

This is not a game I would recommend rushing through. The story can feel a bit simple but still catches your attention, feeding into your desire to explore. Playing through quickly really makes the grind apparent and not as enjoyable in the later area which most likely is addressed by solo versus multiplayer experience differences. If you try to rush through, you are going to miss the experience that is this game.

I would give Voyagers of Nera an 8 out of 10.

This was one of my more hyped games of the year. I have always wanted a Mafia game in this setting and hope they continue this new series with a starting in America type game next.

Overall I really recommend this game. The world is beautiful and amazing. Its not really open world. It's a straight one mission to the next with some of them not having restrictions on where you go, finally letting you explore and buy other stuff. It was really hard sometimes to tell when these moments are but a hopeful QOL improvement will fix this in the near future. This was my main complaint with the basics of the game.

The characters for the most part are great. From the moment I first met him to the credits roll, I hated Cesare. He is a complete idiot from start to finish and very rarely isnt just taking away from the experience. Luca is the best written character in the game. Period. He should not feel like to get Luca we have to compromise and deal with whatever Cesare is.

The story is decent. I'd say overall it's good. It is VERY predictable but I don't mind that. This game does not provide some ground breaking new level of story writing but it does envoke the emotions I want to feel with a story driven game very well which is why I liked the story. The ending though is atrocious. I kept thinking "wait theres more?" And was excited to live through what I thought would have been the perfect epilogue only to use it to tear down all the highs this game makes. It genuinely feels like they realized they had a bit of story budget left so they decided to throw this in last minute and it just sucks. The ending alone made me drop my overall score for the game down by a point.

The gameplay is decent. I default to stealth for how I play and it felt ok. There were minimal issues I had with being seen through walls once and multiple times shooting someone but I think it's related to what will be my last point. There is definitely some goofiness you can achieve if you abuse the game but i never felt confused on what to do next. The mechanics were introduced in a good way. Its overall decent. And the gun selection is nice. Given the time period you really cant get a ton of variation so I was pretty happy. I wanted a lever action pistol half the time but that was it. The knife fights I get theyre meant to have an intimate moment to move the story forward and drag out key points for story impact but still this feels like a miss. They felt more annoying by the end of the game. But AGAIN this might be due to my last point.

My last point I want to hit with this game is the overall playability of the game and why I would not recommend it on steam specifically. There are A LOT and I do mean A LOT of graphical bugs. After spending maybe 30min I got the game to a tolerable point but there is constant stuttering. Textures breaking. Fps issues. Its all in your face most of the game. After playing for a few minutes at given settings they eventually seem to settledown but the frame rate issues were present for my ENTIRE playthrough both in gameplay and cutscenes. It feels like the game drops to high teens/low 20s for framerate for most of the game. None of this is game breaking luckily but it definitely is enough to take away from the experience. Putting the game on various settings didn't seem to help. Switching to the nvidia DLSS gave me the best results for improvements. I have a decent pc with a 3090ti, 32gb of ram, and a ryzen 9 5950 so I don't think this is on my end. These graphical issues could be causing the aiming, stealth, and knife complaints.

Overall I give Mafia a 7/10. Its a good game I'd recommend but maybe not for pc. I wouldn't call this game open world even though it still kind of is. With the amount of open world games present right now that fail to fill in their worlds to justify the open world, this game handles it well for me. There's a lot A LOT of graphical bugs that I think is feeding into other things breaking which definitely take you out of the story at times. These bugs, the lack of clear cut moments where you're allowed to explore the world, and bad ending are the main things that take away from this game for me.

Nightmare difficulty in this game is like shoving six 1-sided dice into your nut sack, shaking it violently, and trying to get 6 different numbers. Eventually the dice will get covered in enough bodily fluids to look like 6 different numbers but 9 times out of 1 you wont get what you need for your build.
