Early Access Review
Early Access for Frosthaven has been so much more stable and easy than I was expecting it to be. It's exciting to jump into a game while it's under development and be part of the improvement process, but my friends and I (two in the US and one in the UK) were surprised to find that we had fewer desync and disconnections playing Frosthaven than we have had playing current-state Gloomhaven.

If you are new to the series, I would not recommend picking up the game until it is out of early access. Frosthaven IRL is very intricate (even more so than Gloomhaven) and the tutorials are still a work-in progress. Even transitioning from a long time playing Gloomhaven to this game, there were enough icon changes and UI alterations that we really had to guess at and play around with many mechanics both new and old as we go in order to learn what they mean.

The biggest negative that I am finding about Frosthaven so far is that it really feels too complex to solo-play in its current state. Playing through scenarios with even just two mercenaries feels much less manageable than it did in Gloomhaven because of the interesting but challenging setup required for the most powerful abilities of each merc to pay off. I still have a solo game, but it sometimes feels disheartening to make so many missteps when I'm in charge of all of my crew; it's like the game is a juggernaut that requires someone to handle one station at a time in order to work well.

If you've played Frosthaven on Tabletop or Gloomhaven on Steam, I think you'll ultimately find what the devs have put together to be really engaging, especially if you're gaming with friends. Also, there's an undo button now, so you don't have to restart the whole round if you misplayed something. So satisfying.

This was the funniest game I've played in a long, long while, and well worth the price. It was a better way to spend my life than most comedies I've seen on the silver screen. I did not see that ending with the Fishmonger coming. Coal Supper should be proud of this masterpiece.

So adorable, so satisfying, so creative, and so well drawn. I loved this game like few others. <3

This game was a wonderfully satisfying puzzle with a hilarious story, and a brilliant way around the most frustrating part of puzzle games - getting it wrong and having to start all over again. The rewind system, and the way it was incorporated into the telling of the story was a one-in-a-million novelty that makes Tactical Breach Wizards feel really special. Also, I'll be real with you; I played my first run through with the Dev commentary on and it was really fun to hear as I was experiencing the game for the first time. This is a top tier experience in my book.

Not my style at all. I'm not built for the attention and planning this game needs. I try to play it with my friends every 2 years or so, and it's like retrying horseradish to see if my taste has changed. Great game, not for me. GET IT OUT OF MY RECOMMENDEDS, STEAM!

It has fair mechanics, and I want to like it, but the world did not capture me in the first hours, and I just got very quickly into a mindset of playing so I would not have wasted my money. Playing felt like a chore. I might end up watching someone play and return to it if I'm captivated by the story, but the start lost my attention so unexpectedly fast.

The detail on this game is truly sublime. For those who are familiar with D&D campaigns, and 5E rules specifically, the game will feel like a wonder straight off your Character Sheet. Darkvision is denoted by a short range light that emanates in front of your character when they are selected, while those without darkvision are left to squint at the shadow and fumble for the nearest brazier.

For those who are coming from Early Access, there is so much to the full game to make you squeal with with joy. The Sleep spell now allows you to choose who you wish to affect within your range. The origin characters feel natural when you take them up as your PC avatar. The world swells underneath your feet to meet everything you can think of doing, without those silly "cinematic missing" messages. The full game does not disappoint.

The most egregious error so far? The water is labeled as "Chasm", because a character would be lost if pushed in it. Funny and cute, but everything you've dreamed of since you first picked up a D&D video game 20 years ago. A true gem. I could, and probably will, cry.

It's a really fun brain teasery strategy game that reminds me of Battle of Wesnoth, but dungeon-crawlier. Great solo or with friends. ^_^

This game is stronger in terms of combat quality than Baldur's Gate I and II, and the story is just as strong. It's only drawback is the lack of party banter, because all Party members are player created PCs. Highly recommended.

Early Access Review
I've loved every build of this game since I was first introduced. I'm more than happy that the sound cues are finally working excellently, and the world has clicked into feeling immersive. There are few games that I enjoy playing with friends as much as this one, and I look forward to seeing the game continue to evolve.
