A bit on the nose and insensitive for the subject matter it covers. The parallels to Elisabeth Fritzl's trauma and abuse are undeniable, down to the room design, which I find to be concerning. A majority of the gameplay is rather drab as well.

As a victim of childhood CSA, I feel that there was not enough sufficient warning for what the bad ending entailed. I think the vagueness and implications of what "Papa's" intentions were was effective and terrifying, and the "pretend to sleep" sequence made my skin crawl and I enjoyed the ride. However, the bad ending is so unnecessarily direct and left me feeling grossed out, with disgust directed towards the developer and not "Papa" or anything in-game.

The dream sequences were phenomenal, and I dig the general aesthetic.
I think the developer's heart was in the right place, but it felt somewhat insensitive. The execution is misguided at worst.

foxhole has the potential to be an absolutely incredible game, it's unlike any other i have ever played, and i SINCERELY wish i could recommend it to customers. it can be a real blast. i have made friends within both factions, committed entire days to important battles that will define the entire war in player-built organizations, and have overall enjoyed at least a portion of the hours i've spent addicted to this game.

however, the game is managed by a team of developers that are completely out of touch with the community, and almost every update makes things worse rather than better. more and more emphasis is placed on the grind than the entertainment, and more and more player labor is required to do increasingly complicated logistical tasks. the introduction of facilities made an already tedious logistic process into something far too complex for casual players, essentially requiring player formed regiment membership to learn and work with the system. even within regiments, logistics have become a complicated bureaucracy full of toxicity and arguments over materials and location. casual players will struggle with facilities (which have been made ESSENTIAL to logistics and even putting up a fight in the war) due to no adequate tutorial, difficult to understand systems and a relatively heated environment.

there is a horrible system of "asymmetry" that results in the very weapons the factions unlock throughout the war defining the way the fronts will shift and not player ingenuity alone. and because of this asymmetry, complaining about an objectively unbalanced weapon your faction cannot have that makes combat frustrating will cause people from the other faction to make fun of you and cite how your faction has weapons they cannot adequately deal with as well.

whenever they finally make tweaks to make things more equal, it tends to do the opposite and removes the "edge" one faction has over the other, making the other asymmetries in the game so much more apparent. this is why both factions will complain about dev's having bias for the other, it's because there are periods where they will nerf one faction likely multiple updates in a row while only buffing the enemy, keeping the fundamentally broken and decisive system. alternatives between factions is good, allowing for unique playstyles depending on what flag you wave, but some materials are just objectively better from one faction to another and there's no denying this.

performance can be absolutely god-awful in busy regions, and the queues to even get in to combat get unfathomably long. there's very little accessibility options; for example, there's little accommodation for those of us that suffer from colorblindness. language barriers provide a real and unintentional challenge that makes gameplay more interesting, and the ways in which we as players work around it is so fascinating and entertaining, but lack of built in communication methods has led to some racist attitudes in the community that may (can't personally attest as a native english speaker) make new players feel unwelcome.

overall, foxhole has so much potential that just continuously gets torn apart by its own developers. the game has become less and less fun the longer i've been playing.

Charmingly simple in design and gameplay, but full of enough content to keep you playing for hours.

It's so damn fun to play with friends, its multiplayer works flawlessly. Absolute steal for its price.
