Mark Rutte
Mark Rutte (born February 14, 1967, in The Hague, Netherlands) is a Dutch politician who has played a prominent role in both national and international politics. Since October 1, 2024, he has been the Secretary General of NATO, succeeding Jens Stoltenberg. Prior to this position, he was Prime Minister of the Netherlands for almost 14 years, from October 2010 to July 2024, becoming the longest-serving prime minister in the country's history.

Leader of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) from 2006 to 2023, Rutte presided over four coalition governments, notable for his pragmatism and ability to form alliances between disparate parties. During his tenure as prime minister, he led the country through crises such as the economic recession, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the war in Ukraine. His political career began in the private sector, working in human resources for Unilever, before entering government as secretary of state in 2002.

As NATO Secretary General, Rutte has maintained a strong focus on collective defense, highlighting the Russian threat and supporting increased military spending among allies. He has generated controversy for his closeness to Donald Trump, whom he has praised for boosting European defense spending, although he has also emphasized that such increases are in response to real threats, not to please individual leaders.
