Oldie but goldie. Recommend not modding - just go with it. Works fine with a gamepad.

I cannot stop playing XCOM games. This game is one of them.

I don't think I've ever found a game so infinitely replayable.

I played this game for 23 hours, and I did not have fun.

Some will say "You must have been having fun, otherwise you wouldn't have played it for 23 hours. Why didn't you stop after 5 hours?"

The answer to that is: Because I BELIEVED it would get better. I had faith. People kept saying things like this:

"Planets get more interesting closer to the center."
"You just haven't given the game enough time yet. It gets better once you get more inventory slots."
"Keep playing, I've had an amazing time."

Lets say someone came to me and said "Lets dig to the center of the Earth. Theres a pot of gold there and you will be rich. Heres a shovel", and I start digging. After 10 hours I say "This sucks. I'm going back up the ladder."

The gentleman says "No keep digging. It will get better. It will be worth it."

After 23 hours of digging I'm still having a terrible time. Do I give up and say "that was no fun", or do I keep digging?

How about if I had paid 40 quid for the shovel?

edit: I wrote this review immediately after closing the game and saw "23 hours" - Steam updated a few mins later to add the last few hours I'd spent playing. I haven't played it since writing this review.

edit 2: Gonna be diving back in with this one for VR. Wish me luck.

edit 3: Tried it in VR for an hour and wasn't my thing. Oh well, props to them for trying.

Even though I loved the demo from yeeeeears ago and greatly looked forward to the finished product, I was a bit disappointed with the final product when I saw it did not add much. It still had the great gameplay of the demo, but it felt like little more than a level pack, and not a very long one at that.

I decided to refund it, intending to buy it when it was at a price I was comfortable with. Then some time later heard that a VR version was coming. Great!

However due to their unethical and anti-VR practices (exclusivity), I have decided not to repurchase this game as I do not think it is fair to consumers. VR would add a lot to this game, but I don't think purchasing this game is worth damaging the VR market, and so I will not support them. I hope the Facebook deal was worth it.

I only count myself lucky that I was not one of the original kickstarter backers who funded based on their "VR" promise. I would be very pissed if I was.

Horrible VR bug needs to be fixed. Can't drop or transfer items, making it unplayable. Would not recommend for VR.
