Early Access Review
I bought this game mainly because of its funny name - started it - Unreal Engine V splash screen - Main Menu with SURROUNDEAD in big letters on the top of the screen - 10/10. The game could also be renamed to FreedomOfChoice because it allows you to tweak almost everything to your liking - hell yeah I liking - I like the art style a lot - I like the slow and chilled gameplay - I am not sure about the infinite storage design regarding bag-in-bag but as I mentioned already: it's configurable to your liking - the background music needs a bit more love - I play while listening to something else - overall a great game if you are an open world sandbox enjoyer - I am - like it - good job Dev!!!

Now after having played it for many hours I have mixed feelings. It is for sure not even close to the quality of Yet Another Zombie Survivors which in my opinion is one of the best if not The Best survivors-like game I have played so far.

  • visuals, sound and performance are great. Gameplay is smooth as butter (I use manual aiming mode). But the animation of almost half of the enemies are broken. They just slide over the map instead of having proper animation, which is kind of awkward.
  • variety of environment, equipment and skills are hugh while variety of enemies are not that great. You get constantly rewarded and motivated to try out your new stuff by the missions given to you. All skills may be evolved into a superior version and combined into a fusioned version.
  • even so you do grind a lot, the gameplay does not feel grindy at all at first. The regular progress towards unlocking mods, weapons, armor and maps rewards you naturally with enough resources to upgrade everything over time. But unlocking the last 30 achievements is a hell of a grind and not fun at all. Maps require you to play 30, 50 or even 60 minutes just to pop 1 or sometimes 2 achievements. There are currently 180 in total.
  • and at last: so far, achievements unlock without any problems which is a relieve. Since the release of the game we got plenty updates (28+) which were tiny in size and therefore very well appreciated. The downside over time was that some fixed bugs where introduced again later and had to be patched again. Stabilization may happen in the future but so far the patch-train is still at full speed.

Maybe a 7/10 in the current state.

By far the most fun zombie survivor game I have played so far. It looks gorgeous, has meaningful builds and synergies with the other heroes. Runs butter smooth at all times and has the perfect mix of RNG and strategic planning.

Well done Devs!!!

Mind-blowing good! Incredible good! The very best DOOM I have played so far.

Once you get into the rhythm: leech life, leech armor, refill ammo, repeat, combat feels beautiful.

The gameplay is much faster than DOOM 2016, still butter smooth. Replayability is great.

The gameplay feels a bit dated BUT the story, the atmosphere and in particular the DLC: Burial at Sea - Episode Two are amazing. I strongly recommend to play BioShock 1 and 2 before Infinite to get the most out of the story and do not miss out on the DLCs.
