In my opinion, fans of the first game (like myself) will enjoy this one. Let's break it down point by point (I played on the highest difficulty):

1. The core concept of the game remains the same, but everything feels bigger. The scale has grown—now it's thousands of people, not just hundreds, and mistakes are even more punishing. Every move requires careful thought, and as time goes on, the number of possible actions only increases.
   
2. If you liked exploring the frozen wastelands in the first game, they've taken it to a whole new level here. The number of scouts is limited, but there are so many places to explore that I often had to pause the game just to plan my next expedition properly.
   
3. Factions are a new mechanic that adds a lot to the gameplay. Your society is now more diverse, and you need to maintain balance in your actions to keep your colony living in peace and harmony.
   
4. The law system has become more complex. Now you have to negotiate with factions to push through your initiatives, but you also need to be careful not to make promises that could hurt your long-term goals.
   
5. Managing multiple colonies simultaneously has really amped up the game's scale. Even with just two colonies, I found myself pausing the game 80% of the time, thinking about supply routes, building queues, population management, and labor allocation.
   
6. I haven't compared the research options between the first and second game, but it feels like there’s more now (though I might be wrong). Either way, there’s a new mechanic where research impacts your relationships with factions. Lots of building types too, which allows for various colony management approaches.

The game’s visuals are stunning. The event illustrations, the locations in the frozen wastelands, the research screens—all are amazing. The interface is a joy to use. I zoomed in a couple of times to check out individual districts and buildings, but my favorite view is zooming out one or two scrolls above the colony to admire the frozen landscape.

The soundtrack retains its unique style, which is a relief. It adds just as much emotion as the visuals do while you're playing.


There are 7 different maps in the utopia builder mode to suit any preference. And that's just at launch! Playing these is actually much harder than the story campaign.


I do have a few minor issues, but I'm sure the devs will fix them soon:

• Once, at around the 15-hour mark, the game crashed when I zoomed in on the colony.
  
• There were slight FPS drops when zooming in and out, but only when there were a lot of districts on screen.
  
• Saving the game feels a bit slow.
  
• Some things can be confusing, so make sure to read the instructions (I spent 10 minutes trying to place the gas filtration district in Winterhome on a gas source before I finally read the manual and figured it out).

As for optimization, I can’t complain—I had no problems. My 4070ti handled ultra settings without a hitch.


I definitely recommend the game. The devs delivered on all fronts!

P.S. Some players claim that the new game kills off the mechanics and principles of the first one, but I think that’s nonsense. If you’re looking for a high-quality, natural progression of the series that keeps the best elements from its predecessor, Frostpunk 2 is a perfect example. But if you want the new game to just be a copy of the old one with a few tweaks, then go play Civilization.

Перед последними 2 эпизодами разрабы сладко дунули и сценарий превратился во что-то дикое. Но так как 3/5 эпизодов все-таки нормальные, ставлю положительную оценку.
