It does some things right and some very wrong. It's a solid 5/10. Once again, it's one of those times when a mixed review option would be great.

I like the concept, but it felt terribly explored. As most people said, the game only ramps up and starts throwing more enemy variety by the last chapter, and by then, it feels like I'm playing Half-Life 2. There's nothing wrong with that, but given the concept, this had so much potential to throw new things at the player, which was a wasted opportunity.

The Noir/Sepia/Miami are supposed to be standout chapters, given that the last one is just Half-Life 2, and yet the final chapter has the best combat flow. The other ones have you fighting through corridors against metro cops and combine soldiers, and that's the ONLY enemy you will fight for hours outside of some very rare instances.

Most of the guns didn't feel good, either. Most of them are re-skins with fire rate/damage slightly tuned. But man, the SPREAD of some of the guns is just criminal. I know HL never had the best guns in the first place (looking at you, HL2 pistol), and this mod is far more combat-focused than Half-Life, so making guns more rewarding and accurate wouldn't have hurt.

Be aware of spoilers, but the final boss is utterly unfair, unbalanced, and unfun.

It's a terrible way to end a somewhat good last chapter. I played on the hard difficulty, and it didn't feel like it was balanced around that difficulty. Having you versus the final boss with the periodic enemy spawn would be better. THE CONSTANT enemy spawns with no proper cover were driving me MAD, and not only that but silent spawns without any notice. This is not how you do combat in HL2. This final boss was more like a DOOM arena, but you have the mechanics to fight in DOOM. I cannot believe this passed through playtesting without a single person complaining.

Given my frustrations, I'm more inclined to give this a "not recommended" rating, as most of the issues are not being changed. They are issues with decisions made while making the mod. But I still agree that The Burton Equation deserves a 5/10. It's not terrible, but it was a wasted opportunity in many ways.

It's a decent Vampire Survivor-like game with a ton of potential. There are many games like this nowadays, but Deep Rock Survivor has some extra charm and mechanics to keep things somewhat fresh.

I'd still appreciate it if they were even bolder with the game. They are still holding it back, but a game like this deserves some silly and fun upgrades! Let us go wild. Rock and Stone!

My first day on this Island was something else. Lemme tell ya, I'm not sure why my dude thinks carrying a rock is the best idea for survival, but he sure is good with it, as I could easily destroy a whole tree just by smashing a rock on it. Talk about a strong boi.

But anyway, as I was on my way to gather some resources, a duo of two other naked fellas started running at me, screaming and threatening my life: "RIZZLESS INDIVIDUAL!" they shouted at me, and with those two single words, I knew things were about to go down.

I felt like Muhammad Ali in his prime. I easily dodged all of their blows with the rock and landed some hits on them. I was feeling it, and they knew they messed with the wrong naked guy in the block. Everything was going fine until chaos struck: a new challenger appeared, and this one had a bow.

I quickly ran behind a rock and saw the blood-fueled battle between them, but the new adversary proved to be a worthy foe and a sublime sharpshooter, making quick work of both rock-wielders.

I've tried to take advantage of the situation that unfolded right in front of me and made my next move: to rush down on the unaware and unprepared archer, but that proved a mistake. As I stepped out of my cover, my screen turned black. I died, but not from an arrow.

Seems like another player was sneaking and watching the whole action as well. This one had a proper firegun, which proved to be my and the other player's demise. "Dude you guys are so bad lmao" said the newcomer, and right there, my first adventure ended.

If I learned anything, it is to never trust someone in this game, and the dude sleeping right next to me will learn this lesson the hard way.

10/10

A very enjoyable VR roguelite! The mech makes you feel that much more powerful. Highly recommend!

The devs are also very supportive and listen to all community feedback. Recently, they've shared a very exciting roadmap so the future for this game looks extremely bright!

Oh, and did I mention co-op? Yes! Played with a friend, and we had a blast killing some alien bugs :)

Another W from Capcom and the Resident Evil series, glad to see how much of a comeback it has been since the fiasco of Resident Evil 6.

One of the best Roguelikes I've ever played, simple as that.

***+ The new DLC is amazing. Makes me happy to see how modders are being put into the spotlight, deservingly so!
