I love this game. Sadly, Sony decided to piss off one of the most unified and dedicated gaming communities ever to exist. Truly, Sony is the greatest enemy of Managed Democracy.

EDIT: WE DID IT FELLOW HELLDIVERS WE GOT SONY TO CHANGE THEIR MINDS WOOOOOO

This game is overall worth playing. There's a LOT of bugs, issues, and such that Bethesda never seemed to care about fixing, so mods such as the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch and other texture and loading fixes are CRITICAL to a good playthrough. The DLCs are overall lackluster; Far Harbor is probably the only DLC I would recommend based on gameplay and story alone. However, Nuka-World adds tons of content, and the various workshop DLCs are often required by a lot of mods to function, so take that how you will. Additionally, I would highly recommend buying the GOTY version on sale, since all the DLCs except Far Harbor aren't really worth the money Bethesda charges for them.
The story of Fallout 4 is much less developed than in previous games. In stark contrast to New Vegas, there are very few decisions one can make that significantly sway the storyline, and much less freedom of actions. Additionally, there's much less moral ambiguity in choices you make. The karma system has been done away with, in favour of companion affinity. The perks and skills have been completely overhauled, to the point where they are very different than their Fallout 3 and NV counterparts.
The characters, and specifically the companions, are rather well-done, with most of them having character arcs of their own. However, Bethesda definitely could have done better with their companion implementation; often times companions will be pretty much dropped on you from nowhere.
Finally, Fallout 4 is the only Fallout game to have a fully voiced protagonist. The voice acting for the player character is FLAWLESS, and the voice acting for most of the other characters you encounter in the game is quite well done.
In conclusion, this game has some serious flaws that prevent me from recommending it as-is. Mods fix many of these problems; however, not all of them are fixable and one risks tanking their game performance with mods. I definitely would have liked to see a more fleshed-out branching storyline, with multiple minor factions available to join, similar to Skyrim. All we can hope is either Bethesda releases another PROPER DLC, or possibly a Special Edition re-release with tweaks, texture optimisations, and the lot.

Skyrim is a classic, beautiful game with a wonderfully detailed storyline and plenty of choices and paths to take. Absolutely worth it to buy the Special Edition.
Mods are ESSENTIAL in this game! I highly recommend the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch, Static Mesh Improvement Mod, and most of the top mods on Nexus. And don't forget to buy your copy of Skyrim for the Samsung Smart Fridge :)
