The Casting of Frank Stone is a game that relies a bit too much on you searching areas before you progress. Getting all the Relliks, Artifacts, and Trinkets, as well as wandering to get more dialogue lets you get a better grasp on the world you're thrust into, and I personally think it's great in that regard. The problem stands, however, that the game can be beaten incredibly quickly, even on a first playthru, and that is so detrimental to so many people's enjoyment of the game.

It also doesn't help that the game deviates from Supermassive's style of "you can save everyone", because unfortunately, some characters are forced to die. This fact, combined with a heavy emphasis on traversal and collectible scavenging, easily makes this one of Supermassive's worst outings to date, but I don't hate it myself.

I think it's my lack of experience with Until Dawn, the Dark Pictures games, and The Quarry, but these are all things I didn't mind. I've read that some people found the references to Dead by Daylight as too much, with the Relliks and Collectibles scattered everywhere, but I found it as a fun little thing, rattling every doll I found just because it looked funny. The little bits and bobs scattered throughout Gerant Manor also made a lot of sense, since someone who wants to convene with the entity would have a lot of memorabilia from its realm. I'd also read that the game didn't feel like it was in the world of Dead by Daylight enough, but I thought the references and nods were more than enough, personally.

It's hard to say that this is a good Supermassive game, since it absolutely desecrates their actual formula. I'd better describe it as a Supermassive game directed by BHVR, under their storytelling style (multiple choice, which choices mattering to some regard).

Did I enjoy it? Yeah, when the game ran at above 30fps (I am far below the min-rec specs, but it still ran at 60fps sometimes). Do I recommend it for people that expect the Supermassive formula in a new game? I'd tell them to temper their expectations and maybe get it on sale.

Early Access Review
Having to look at every little thing makes this game incredibly difficult, especially when keys have to be found. Also, having a max light requirement while having power drain seems like slight overkill, more so annoying that I can't see the amount of battery the breaker has.

I like the concept, but man, needing to look at every little thing makes dying that much more penalizing, because you need to wait for your friends to get out, which will take them ages.

edit: i got gud

it's still very hard to find certain things, but they do make sense where they are placed

For years my review was simple, saying that the game was good, then getting updated and simply stating that it was still good, and I feel like it's finally time to give the game a better review.

There's genuinely no better tower defense game in the same format as BTD6 on the market, and no better company to helm that game than Ninja Kiwi. While a lot of their other games don't tend to land that well solely due to Bloons being their biggest franchise, they still have committed to this game for over 7 years, and that itself is commendable. Through ups and downs this game has continued to thrive.

If I were to truly recommend this game to anyone, please go play BTD5 Flash through the Ninja Kiwi Games Archive, and if that game leaves you wanting more, come back to this game.
