You know.. I'll play anything Red Thread releases. They make story games, and they make them well.
That said, getting into this game took me a little while, but, once my journey was well underway I was fully engaged with all of it. I love the world building they've done and the voice acting (especially Pax and Sai) was just the best.
As for the story, I think they did a great job with the choices you get to make. I never felt like the game was vague about a consequence or presenting important things at inopportune times or anything of the sort. And It's fun to see how all the characters move into different directions depending on how interactions take place over the course of the game.
I also love that the game doesn't just have a thing like "Vox" and expects you to accept it and move on, but rather, starts delving into that: What is it? Why is it? Some of the bigger pieces fall into place a bit late in the game, but on the other hand, that does allow for reflection- understanding the journey and its meaning better when looking back. Reflections, by the way, are also a great part of the game- Pax reflecting is like reading April's diary in The Longest Journey.
All in all, I enjoyed my roadtrip very much and hopefully get to see the next game from Red Thread Games soon(tm)

When you look at the parts separately they are not that impressive on their own. But Starfield is more than the sum of its parts. There's a game underneath all of it, and once it hooks you the hours just fly by. I love how they fleshed out the companions better than in previous games, how the gun play is so good, I don't miss the Fallout V.A.T.S. system at all. And I can't even guess the amount of time I've spent on ship building...
My one gripe would be the Outpost linking- I get how it works, but it felt a bit buggy still- what with links disappearing and me having to rebuild the structures to have things appear back in the list. But that's fine, there's just so much to do, so many places to go and quest lines to complete; this game is now my favourite of all Bethesda games.
It is a hallmark Bethesda game, and a unique experience. I've had no complaints performance wise and the new engine just looks great- I can't wait to see what other games they will make with it

I'd say the only real way to get the hang of this game is to complete it, which does kind of fit into the story element itself, as the main characters don't really understand what is happening in their world and how to react to the oncoming doom, you'll find yourself playing the game by ear with no real idea of the consequences of your dialogue choices, or which party members might suddenly become unavailable, or how you should spend your renown wisely, or even how the whole journey is paced for that matter.

However, as you progress you'll get to know the main characters, become practiced in the combat system and might even become invested in the development of the characters and the main story as different themes are introduced, even though it seems -in hindsight- that some topics are touched but not really expanded on.

I am not sure if I would replay this game much -or at all for that matter- since I enjoyed the first playthrough very much because of all the unknowns, whereas a second playthrough would lack certain surprises and would probably invite a more strategic management of resources and alternate game choices purely for the sake of exploring content missed in previous playthroughs.

I am a big fan of BioWare RPGs and this game was developed by ex-exmployees. The focus on characters, their stories and a detailed world setting reflects this in a positive way in my opinion. The price of 19,99 euros is a bit steep though, I'd say get it in a sale for 10 euros or less if you appreciate a story focused RPG.

One of the best point and click adventure games of it's time, and in most ways it still is one of the best these days. For a title almost 15 years old, some elements of course have become dated - the pre-rendered cutscenes are a clean giveaway - but Ragnar Tornquist's ability for story telling more than makes up for this. He created a universe of two worlds where The Longest Journey tells a great story and lays the groundwork for further developments. Dreamfall neatly expands on this and as of Q4 2012 it is clear that he will work on continuing the story in Dreamfall Chapters. If you are a fan of adventure games and you can appreciate a good story development I would recommend The Longest Journey. It's a great game in and of itself and if you have become involved into the world and characyers, you can continue your experience in the sequels.

It was quite the game in it's time and it still is. It's a shame this game didn't do well in sales figures, because it's real quality. Best of all, part two is still underway!
