I'm quite a fan of Left 4 Dead and Vermintide. I wasn't particularly expecting Deep Rock Galactic to add much to that co-operative survival framework but I think it does. The creeping sense of doom as you move further and further into the mission, away from your drop point is familiar, as is the awful sensation of slowly running out of resources.

The additional layer comes in the form of the resources you mine and the interactions between the cleverly-designed special abilities of the different classes. Need to mine something high up on a wall? The engineer can drop a platform, the gunner could lay a zipline or the scout can swing up to it? Swarm incoming? Drop a couple of sentries and wait to pop the shield, possibly a slow grenade ... the game rewards working together not only with success but by making you feel like a smart member of a well-constructed team.

Of course, it's still perfectly capable of descending into farce as your driller falls down (another) hole, the explodey flowers explode all around you, the mule that's leading you to a drop pod suddenly heads straight up a sheer wall and so on but it wouldn't be fun without the threat of embarrassing failure ...
