Context

Hardware

I am playing on an index with RTX 2080 and Ryzen 7 5700X

Metro / VR experience

I have played the entire metro sage untill this point.
I also played most popular full lenght vr titles like half life alyx saints and sinners and arazona sunshine.
Besides that I have a lot of vr hours under my belt, so I am less prone to nausea.

Progression

I am playing on hardcore difficulty.
I currently have only played up intill, chapter 3.

Review

My first impressions are great, if you are looking for a way to immerse yourself in classic metro this is great.

Performance / Graphics

I have seen some people complaining about graphics and performance, although the game does stutter quite a bit this only happened when loading a new area so its not that bad (although this might be realy disorientating for less experienced vr players). As for graphics I don't realy see the issue as they don't seem to be worse then advertised in the trailer so no complaints here.

Gameplay

Controlls

Controlls feel great I have no problem reloading in a pinch and i always grab the right weapon (unlike saints and sinners where I have trouble holstering and uholstering weopons, or half life alyx where when you move you select the wrong weapon) although i currently only have the default pistol and kalash so we'll see when I unlock the other weapons. Guns feel great to shoot so not much to say here.

The only gripes I have are the controls around your head as when you turn on the flashlight or wipe your gas mask I tend to smack my headset (the lights can be avoided by reaching over the headset).

Combat

Hardcore is great if you're a good shot the game gives you just enough ammo to win every battle, usually only leaving you with a handfull of bullets after any encounter. Stealth feels just like the other games and is perfectly translated into vr, no notes.

Exploration

This is the only part I feel is lacking as it seems there is no upgrade system like in the previous metro games, so the only reason to explore is health and ammo. Besides that the exploring itself is also pretty limited because of the lack of interactable objects. This is a bummer because this is a big part of what makes saints and sinners and alyx so great, missed oppertunity in my book.

Story

As stated I have'nt completed the story so I can't judge it fairly yet but it seams to be fine and fits well into the rest of the metro canon.

My only 3 gripes are:
I am not playing as artyom (but his story was pretty much finished, so this is probably a good thing), maybe dlc worthy.
I do not start with the classic revolver (but this is probably done to make it easier for players to reload in vr).

The biggest one by far is the cutscense where you are moved around and placed in wierd angles, these are present in the previous games but do not translate well into vr. vr excels at story telling happening around you while you can completely ignore it and f around with the environment, this is pretty unexceptable and I hope other future vr games will learn from this .

Environment

The environment looks realy cool and is realy admospheric and fits in perfectly into the rest of the metor series. Although untill now the I have mostly seen narrow tunnels, although I am expecting to see a couple more grandiose set pieces when I go top side.

Conclusion

Absolutely great controls difficult and exciting combat stealth perfectly translated form the old games into vr with some good looking and realy admospheric locations. However the lack of interactable objects and an upgrade / modification system like in the previous games is a real bummer. So for the little I played I feel comfortable giving this game a 7.5/10, fits perfectly into the metro series and a great addition to the full length titles that the vr medium badly needs.

Early Access Review
Very fun game

The best part of this game is the way all the different buildings can stack ontop of eachother, however appart from this i feel the game is a bit shallow especially compared to more complex city builders/colony sims like "Oxygen not included" or "Rimworld". I am aware that this game is still in early access and that new features will continue to be added.

I would recommend this game for annyone that enjoys city builders and just wants to have a fun time.

kan confirmeren dat de scenario's zeer realistisch zijn.
