If there was a middle option I would choose that. The game isn't good, but it isn't bad either.

I feel bored most of the time while playing.

I think this game has too many ideas and most of it feels irrelevent and is not working in it's current state.

The rainbow six siege clone part at the beginning feels like a waste of time.

The mining mini game and loot feel like filler. They currently don't need to exist and the game would be better for it in their current state.

Loot becomes meaningless because there is no chance of getting good loot since it's time gated. And, you can't really fix this because the game wants to be a competitive round based shooter. These choices are at odds with eachother.

CTF and assualting/defending are the parts that are currently working imo. The game CAN be the most fun during these parts. Although enjoyment isn't guarenteed. Depending on how well matched the teams are, or if someone just disconnects which seems to be a big problem right now.

Also the trailers are misleading. They show a time to kill that is very fast. I would say the time to kill in this game is ~25% too long. And ~25% too fast when you are at endgame with orange weapons.

I DO see potential here

But, i am worried for the future of this game...

I think the game should have released in early access and spent time refining and building upon the core loop.

I am worried based on the fact that the roadmap is focused on more content. New content is not going to improve the fundamental issues with the core loop. Going down the path of more content over gameplay loop fixes will be the death of this game

It's superb. The story is excellent and the music is world class.

My only gripe is that the turn based combat isn't realllly turn based combat. The combat is a lot less strategic than I was expecting it to be. The combat is a great step in the right direction. It gets a lot right, like the feeling you get from successfully performing a counter attack. I just wish there was also some strategy involved in the combat in addition to this counter-attack feeling.
That being said, I am excited to see the next iteration of this combat system.

Some of the most incredible moments in recent memory come from this game.

Pros
-Combat
-Characters
-Voice acting
-Story
-Art style
-Sound track is incredible

Cons:
-Some pacing issues towards the end. It almost feels like they ran out of time with the way that the game kind of just dumps a bunch of side quests on the player at the end. Meanwhile, the pacing is well balanced in the first 70% of the game.
-The tasks within the side quests are poor. Side quests feel as if they are purely for world building. Which I was okay with.
-Jill is a poorly written character. Her entire personality is to serve you and be your love interest. Which is a shame, because they kind of tried to do some character development with her, but it fell flat and felt rushed.

Overall I had a great time with this game and I plan to play it through again with the DLC.

What I liked:
Solas
Combat feel
Combat fluidity
Unique gear had interesting build craft potential.
Well paced and enjoyable finale
Environments are stunning
Techincal performance.
Customise your own difficulty.

What I did not like:
Writing
Companion quest tasks are boring
Side quest tasks are boring
Companion quest story-lines are uninteresting and feel patched together
Companions lack depth. Just when you think they are about to open up, they make a quick quip and are back to business.
Companions are just plain boring
Rook is the epitome of the modern hero story, where you are just some dude who is just good at everything for "reasons"
Only four out of hundreds of dialogue choices hold meaning.
Some of the most meaningless note pickups in any game. Sometimes I would feel more confused after picking up and reading a note left by a soldier in the area who just happened to leave it there. (I just stopped reading these after awhile)
Gear is mostly meaningless, green arrow up, type of loot. The exception being the 'unique' gear class.
Enemy variety sorely lacking for a game this long with this much combat.
Frequently recycled enemy attack patterns. Even between grunts and bosses, which was shocking to me.
Character visual art style
Main villains have weak/no motivations. (Not talking about Solas here)
Bethesda-level difficulty tuning (damage sponges)
Level design
Voice acting missed frequently enough to pull me out of the moment. Neve and Taash are big offenders here.
Facial animations fail to match the tone of the voice acting most of the time.

In Summation:

Dragon Age The Veilguard is an okay game. A true 5/10 experience.

While I had fun with the combat...
I ultimately went into this game expecting nothing, and walked away disappointed.
The climax of the game is so strong, it made me wonder "what could have been?"
What would this climax have been like if I actually cared about any of these characters??

The more I think about it, the more I think this game was designed as an action game, but they just held onto the RPG elements to check off a box for previous fans of the series.
The level design, the combat, the streamlined dialogue all lead into this.

I just wished they had leaned harder in one direction or the other.

Now, all you have is a half baked action game, and a half-baked RPG.

Everything about this game feels safe.
This was the most "eh" game I have played in awhile.

I think I would replay this if only to try out another class.
I would not replay it to relive the story.

This is not a bad game.
This is not a good game.
It's okay.

They can do better, I just hope they get the chance.
